Ok, I am looking at a 360(my previous one went to Ferrari heaven) and it only has the red key fob. So, does that mean, I can buy a black one for $700 and then program it? Or not..... thanks. Hunter
Find a couple black fobs on Ebay and have them cloned from the red one...There is an Fchatter from France that can do this..He did a couple for me and they work fine..... Just remember the Euro fobs and US fobs use a different frequency--So make sure they match before buying them...
I have resisted so far but this is one of the urban legends. The red fob doesn't change the black fobs in any way. The red fob can be used to put the system into learn mode so it can learn to recognize black fobs.
wet road, kinda worn rear tires, curve, 65mph= instant swappage of ends and guardrail city. There was no saving her. It was a very, very, very sad day. ;-( Insurance did right though, so I'll be able to get another. If I can just find what I want! Hunter
That is my understanding. Remember that the process is a little tricky and, from what other say, not too reliable so you can do it a bunch of times before you get it right. There is one great thread on here with the specifics. I will try to find it and post a link.
The red fob allows one to program a new set of fobs without the alarm code. If one presses the red fob it puts the ECU into programing mode then one presses the new red fob and then the two black ones one by one. It is used instead of the alarm code.
is this a joke??!! i've been using a red key fob for a year and a half now!! am i doing something wrong? it's a 430 though, not a 360.. am i supposed to have a black key?!
totally different systems if you have a 430 you need not concern yourself with this thread (unless you want to learn about the 360 key system) on the 360 you're supposed to get two black and one red key. the black ones are for daily use. often, through the years, some of the keys go missing leaving the new owner with some variation on the 2 black/1 red design. on the 430 we don't have the black/red difference... only red keys. but know that our red keys do not equal the red key on the 360... again totally different system. frank
I have a 2000 360, delivered about 2 wks. ago w/2 black fobs. All is well and all works fine but I am wondering - the red fob I am missing - what does it do and do I really need one? Thanks in advance.
The red fob is the master. Should you loose/break your black remotes you can use it to program new black remotes. Did you get the alarm pin?
The red fob can be used to program a new set of fobs purchased from Ferrari. The set includes one red and two black fobs as well as a new code. The old code is not needed. In your case if you do not have the current code or the red fob then you need to call Ferrari for the old code and reprogram from that. If the old code from Ferrari does not work then you need a new ESU. Good luck.
There are a ton of threads on the subject and has been gone over as many time as when the belts should be changed but... It is the only one that can program the frequency of the ecu when that set of fobs is assigned to that car.. The fobs frequency is set and is not designed to be changed
I have checked the threads there is no where any explaination of how the red fob works. More importantly, There will be now if you know. I am confused by your reply. Are you saying that, if you have a red fob you can reprogram other black fobs to that frequency? I understand that the red fob puts the ECU in a programing mode to accept another set of fobs. Please clarify.
http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205466&highlight=red+fob http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207331&highlight=red+fob There are a couple. It is also well outlined in the service manual. The red reprograms the car....not other remotes. Nothing reprograms remotes.
Neither of those threads says exactly what the red fob does. I would like to know exactly what the use is, if you know. Does it only reprogram the same black fob that looses it's programing or new fobs, what?
