So I think Fred is going to set a drop dead date for people to commit to this October 2-5 schedule. I would like to reserve a place to stay as early as possible while some of the good places are available. I'm fine with booking a small cabin and meeting people if others want to wait until a week before the trip. Oh, BUMP! BT
Yep. We're going on October 2-5th. Anyone who wants to go should commit to it before Thursday, September 18th. That's 2 weeks before we go. That way, airfare, accomodations, and transport are all locked down and we can get the best pricing. I'm so excited. I have wanted to drive my car on the mountain roads of GA, TN, NC, and SC for years now. Robert and I talked about doing this trip over a year ago. BT's recon report of how much fun he had just confirmed all of the things I thought about a trip like this. I am looking forward to one of the best driving experiences of my life, and sharing it with the SSF/FCA/FCHAT friends I have made. And, I am really looking forward to seeing Will again, in his new diggs.
What if the driver is a girl??? I guess you guys aren't used to a girl being the owner/driver, maybe. There are some great roads up there, and I could show you a few. I've been to the mountains lots of times (by car, motorcycle, and more) to the locations you mention, including the Tail of the Dragon, and have rented many cabins from Dillard, GA on up. We have a family cabin near Andrews. The roads are spectacular. If you're going to do whitewater rafting, I have been on most of those rivers, and think the Chattooga, Section IV is the best. You may recall it in "Deliverance." Great run, not for the first timer, though. I can see why you wouldn't want to bring the family; or high-maintenance passenger, but not all passengers are girls. ;-> I usually don't enjoy driving alone as much as I do when I have someone special along for the adventure (no girls!) Sounds like a lot of fun, and I hope it materializes. If I were to go, I'd drive all the way as I usually do on road trips, and meet you there. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You are correct. I thought about making that clarification earlier as I know of a few Fchat girls that would enjoy a weekend drive in the mountains. No girls means no sidekicks that may complain that we aren't doing enough shopping at outlet malls or things like that. Female drivers welcome anytime! BT
So, is everyone that had planned on going earlier still avilable and intent on going October 2-5? The way I see it there are 3-4 lodging options. The big place mentioned previously if we get 5 or more people total. There is a smaller place (Are we bear yet? ) http://www.vrbo.com/144765 that would be good for 3-4 people. Paved roads and partial paved driveway with just a small gravel area for parking. If the plan falls apart, I'll go here: http://www.vrbo.com/99243. This is a good place for cheap, but has gravel roads I think. I got the Ginetta back yesterday from the shop, so I need to do some things to get it ready for the trip. I am thinking about making it an epic road trip by not trailering and just driving up. I guess I can make that call when the 10 day weather report is available... BUMP! BT
His CS is having some work done, so he may not have it available for the October 2-5 trip. He is hopeful that everything will work out though. BT
I am doubtful on the Oct 2-5 date, wife has a business trip on Oct 2 + 3 so I have to watch the children.
This seems to be falling apart. Okay then, let's do a roll call for those intent on going for October 2-5. Add your name to the list only if you are definitely going. I plan on reserving a place to stay on Friday. If there is not more than one person on the 'definitely' list, I'll go alone and send the map / driving info back for anyone going on a different date. Those people definitely going: BT
No, just a regular drive and a light came on... A similar thing happened in my Scion last week. I was just driving along and a light on the dash started flashing. It was time to fill up the tank. BT
Hopefully it isn't anything major seeing that he had a great deal of work done on the car so far this year.
Here I am!!! F-chat access was blocked at work. I really need to get a laptop w/ wireless internet access......... Yep, despite having about $17k in work done to the car so far this year.......... While taking a leisurely cruise up A1A a week ago Sunday, the car's F1 light comes on and the car dies. I hope to know what the cause is within the next few days, and expect it to be back on the road before this trip. SO, at this point, I expect to be going.
So does that mean you are going? I intend to make a lodging reservation on Friday AM. So far there is one person going for sure. BT
