    day 2

    day two....

"Front end blocked down with 2000 wet/dry (I don't use the normal bodyshop 'Scotch pads' as they will just ride over orange peel/paint faults etc).
Side skirts ditto, I've removed the factory ppf from the skirt intakes, leading edge of skirt & front arch edge.
Ready for stoppering the stone chips up tomorrow & stripping the front bumper.
The skid plates are beautifully made..........."

not 100 % sure yet . At £1400 for Paintshield, i might just live with the stone chips and get another respray in few years... Have to see if Tom from Paintshield's feeling generous when i call him ;)

Why so much for the clear bra? When I had one put on my CS, I was suprised to learn there was a 'template' already made for the CS, meaning a custom clear bra did not have to be cut and fit. The total cost for the 'template' clear bra, installed, was $650 canadian. Just be sure the new paint on your bumper fully cures (5 days or so?) before the clear bra is installed.

I think a lot depends on how much you have "wrapped". A full front-end (full hood, full fenders, head lamps, bumper etc etc) costs $2500 or so for the F430.

Tony.........looking at that underside shot of your front bumper makes me wonder if the skid plates would even help. ;)

Couple of things, firstly on that price it will be a standard kit, and it sounds like the trade price rather than retail in that market.

Also the raw material and labour costs are much much higher here than in North America. Was the Guy a mobile operator working from home or does he have a shop? The import costs (shipping) and duties nearly double the cost of the film once its on board UK. Plus we use the newest premium films on the full fronts typically which have a starting base line of nearly twice the standard film. net effect on Premium imported to the UK the raw material cost is nearly 350% higher than a Standard film purchase in the Americas :)

    Hope that helps :)

Bottom line you cannot make these kind of comparisons across international markets.

All of this is not to mention all the other overheads that are significantly higher than the North American ones. Local taxes, Vat, Local Labour costs insurances to cover any risk to the car etc.

Anyhow the people on here should know this right :)

We are all after all businessmen :)

    Cheers

    Tony,

Well worth having Tom do his stuff IMHO. I've done nearly 3000 miles in my car now in the last 2 months and with the full front and side skirt protection it is pristine. The only chips I've got are on the grey paint on the nostrils of the front bumper which aren't covered.

Feel free to reduce my LP560 quote even more now Tom ;) :D

    day 5
Sideskirts prepared, stoppered & blocked down.
(I've spent a bit of time making sure the underside of them is nicely finished - your MOT tester might notice it)
I've thoroughly cleaned her off (including all the areas behind the bumper, under arches etc)
Front bumper blocked down dry with 600 grade paper.

Hi Tony. Nice work going on there and I am looking forward to the results. Also, smart filling in the chips with glaze/filler for the best results.

I wanted to suggest when assembling the car, and specifically the headlights, you may want to consider running the breather hose inside the body instead of inside the air dam. Inside the air dam the hoses receive significantly more windage than when placed inside the body. Don't let any fool tell you they need the air because they don't. If you leave them in the air dam you are move likely to end up with headlight dust. I wrote a long thread on this when I replaced my headlights. The hose is for condensation and pressure equalization, nothing else.

Nice post and thanks for sharing.

Mine was resprayed before I purchased it at Ferrari of Houston. I know how important the bra is, and I'm a staunch supporter of having one on, I just hate the look and feel of it. And for me, it's about the same price as a respray so I understand your perspective. I have a nice chip on my hood from a stupid female SUV driver that decided to run over a bolder in front of me. I really believe, for the most part, how you plan to drive the car as to whether you should bra it or not.
