in the end it was, when i was 5 seconds faster than him at PI :)

of course, that doesn't make it a 355CH, otherwise i'd REALLY have an MR2

Didn't he continue to race it for quite a few years?

I remember him as a very competitive sort of bloke, 5 seconds wouldn't have gone down too good!

There were years where no 355C's turned up to the rally (2003, 2004, 2000 ?) so that doesn't help either.
And there are faster cars now, so it's not likely the 355C is going to have a run at FTD again.

    i agree.

although, as long as Peter W didn't turn up, i'd give myself a chance.

I haven't seen anyone else fast in a 430, and that's what it would take.

    anyway....it doesn't matter...i'm not going this year.

oh yeah...a 355Ch should have easily won in 2006, but the driver of the only one entered was too busy worrying about wearing the right gay pirate shirt to bother about driving fast. (as usual, sadly)

some people just shouldn't go to the track. it's embarrassing.

If the Rally next year has the track day at Lakeside, it could be very interesting between a well driven 355Ch and a F430.

    Or a 360CS or 430CS.

From what I've heard, last week there were about 60 cars entered in the rally, and there is still time to get your entry in.

Unfortunatley I won't be able to go either.

    i doubt it.

430 has so much more power everywhere and the same weight and all the electronic goodies.

Lakeside isn't (wasn't, they are remodelling it - not sure how it will be then) a horsepower track.

    Handling track.

    horsey horsey...you're not listening!

    same weight.

extra 100hp and god knows how much extra torque.

electronic gizmos that let the driver put his foot flat to the floor and computers do the rest.

    f1 gear box.

i might be wrong, but i can't imagine that it would even be close.

In 1996 I did a 1.04.1, PW did just under 1.03, so 1 second for bigger brakes, bigger tyres, better suspension, much, much more horsepower (double).

I'm thinking of a 355CH set up for the track, not the road.

As good as Mr B's book, it has there being no difference between US '84 and '85 QV's.
Although minor, there is a change in the fuse cover retainer that's missed in the book.
So I'm not completely surprised it might miss my instrument issue. All the more so should only OZ cars have examples configured like Horse.

Kind of curious whether any comment was made by those judging the QLD concors?
If you turned up with a car they didn't know to be as original as Horse, would they assume the early configuration on a '81 or later to be modified and mark it down?
Always assuming they noticed, of course. No slure on the judging intended. I have no personal experience of F-club activities but ask my questions as suitability for them must affect market value of any 308 I might consider.

if it were anyone other than PW, i think i'd stand a chance...but to have all those advantages AND be able to drive? can't see it happening.

    well that changes everything.

I vote for it being an ADR change, so a concours judge would have to factor in original delivery country.

Judging standards for originality are a moving target in Aus. In the US they have different originality judges for each class (and more classes) which reduces the error rate. Then they get hung up over the cardboard tag on the clock...

We struggle here to find enough people with the necessary knowledge and an appetite for criticism by owners. Moretti is of course completely obsessive about QV originality. :)

The guy who bought it off him got WW to take off all the challenge stuff. A couple of years ago i was in his garage and all the gear was there for sale.

It was a set of hoosiers and rims, challenge grill, steering wheel, adjustable brake valve (i think), some exhaust parts, the lightweight seats (he said they were 8kg each) and brake ducting. Dunno how close that makes it to a challenge but thats what was there that he showed me
