what's the story with Porsche stole idea from russians??

 

from the czecks actually, the Tatra company. Then Hitler invaded, then the Russians. Tatra sued VW in the 1990's, who settled with a large payment. The Beetle was a straight copy of a Tatra. Every rear-engined Porsche is derived from the Beetle, admittedly less as time went on.

The point is that Dr Porsche was neither an inventor or the design genius that journalists like to describe.

was only ever stupid enough to own one pommy "car" ... MGB, POS fell apart every weekend on the trip from Wagga to Sydney during my engineering training.

The worst was the starter motor falling out of the car dragging along the road by the cable after it SOMEHOW worked it's way out thru the exhaust

I never did work out how it did that as I had to hammer it back in through the extractors !!!

I nearly got tempted to buy a Daimler 250SP ...... was my masochistic period in life

Even though some here don't want to associate the 356/911 with the VW Beetle, its all it is and always will be.

Good simple design all the same, bit like a Harley V2 still living on today in one shape/form or another and will for ever more.

2997cc actually Sh*tbox car but great exhaust note. Still miss it in a weird kinda way

 

a mate of mine had one which he'd hotted up the motor on. he thought it was awesomely fast.

i said 'hey..let's have a drag...your car...my motor bike'

he said 'good idea...that will be interesting'

it wasn't. the bike annihilated him. the weird bit was that he was surprised.

 

that pretty much sums up stag owners. I thought it was fast too. I now realise it felt fast cuz it was unsafe at any reasonable speed.

Knew a guy with a really nice SP250 but he'd blown the diff and couldn't get a replacement in Oz for love nor money.
No internet back then.

I have just given you a quick reference.

Newman has done a senstaional job on his car. I only hope mine comes close to it. After going through this thread I am sureyou maybe converted and perhaps look at another colour other than re-sale red.
