Glad to see you got a "sign" from a higher power. I'd love a PCar for a daily myself. I have the FCar, only a couple people I work with even know I have it. How I invest my money is none of their business. I have to be quiet about it, most of our general labor makes like $8-12 an hour. Like you I have a TL, it's an '05, it's paid for and it's ok. Would I like something newer? Of course. I go test drive various cars every couple months but with the fuel uncertainty I am going to hold off a couple years (I hope). Vipers are interesting right now, a heck of a car for the $ but I already have a weekend car and the wife ain't too keen on me getting another.

    Why certainly; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_S4#B5_S4_.28Typ_8D.2C_1997-2002.29

B-5s are kind of a cult car, which I did not know until after getting one, with a very loyal following and lots of mods. See Audiworld forums.
340 hp with a reflash, 450hp with average mods.
Only those in the know see it as anything but just another A4. Thus the sleeper status.

A B5 S4 sounds like a good choice, although I've heard of some reliability issues with them. I've also looked into the B6 S4's which have a V8 under the hood. Audis tend to have understated styling and don't draw too much attention.

Of course with an M3, S4, CTS-V, etc you can always remove the badges and then even fewer people will know the real deal.

Question is where to test drive one locally. Slim pickins round these here parts.

In Houston the older V6TT S4s are fairly rare. There are lots of the newer 2004-2005 MY cars with the 340hp V8. That or a CTS-V with the 400hp V8 from the Corvette Z06 (possibly with no badges?) seems like a good option to me. Both cars can be had in our area for less than $30k with decent mileage in the 30,xxx range. Just my opninion...

I officially passed on the car today. Seller is a super nice guy, I feel bad wasting the guy's time. PM me if anyone would like to have the seller's number. It's very clean, just not for me right now.

Sounds like a real nice car.
Co-incidentally I'm looking for a sports car for the Mrs.
996s are on the list; just with automatics. *Cringe*
She's not buying "the 996 Turbo is an economy car honey...see...6 cylinders" bit. GT2's ? Dream on.

Tell him to put it at Rennlist. The Aero package really sets this car off.

As far as the B-5; I like mine and its half the price of a M-3. More understated as well.
I do proposals at clients homes and have never been (knowingly) stiffed on a deal because of the wheels.
The M-6 on the other hand lost me lots of bidness. Oooops.

Ever consider a 993TT? They hold their value and are pretty reliable. I would like to own one soon, but for now they are a bit out of my price (and climbing :().

I have ZERO problems with my better half. I can buy anything I want, pretty much. Only problem: I cannot afford anything I want. :)

She would probably fight me to drive the Porsche or an F Car. She used to beg to drive the NSX when I met her 13 years ago. I do not doubt she would fight me. She's better with a manual car than I am.

    Remix,

I second the Audi 2000-2002 S4 6 cylinder bi-turbo. They can be had in 4 - door sedan or the Avant (5 door wagon) and are AWD. With a few mods they are capable of producing serious power. You might have some luck locating one by contacting the folks at champion porsche/audi http://www.champion-motors.com/

    For mods look at

    Total Audi Performance http://www.tap1.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=96_24

Both of those companies are in FL.

Most people who are not enthusiasts would think it's a moderately priced sedan or wagon (the real sleeper).
