Are you kidding me? Not to be rude, but anyone can do graphic design, you just need the time and effort. It takes loads of practice, that's what 101 classes are for, introduction, and for your first year, it's all a learning experience, everyone is going to be mostly at the same level, and if you don't like it, you can change whenever you want. In all honesty, if you have the talent, the class is much easier, if you don't it takes some practice to get there.

I am going to say that I have absolutely no talent in drawing, yet I am still at the same level of the kids in my class but not as great, I ask for feedback and criticism because it helps me build on my drawing. I am in Industrial Design. I love to draw but I don't think I'm terrific at it (not trying to be smug, but I am a horrible drawer IMO), I would love to do this for a living, and it's very rewarding to say I drew this.

Again, I am not trying to be rude Venusone (Sorry, I don't know your real name :))

I have to agree with Venusone. You can get the grade but your portfolio will determine having a design contract awarded. But, as you know, graphic design is pretty diverse; architectural drawings are a whole lot different than flashy websites and CGI.

I agree its diverse and its much different than Industrial Design and Architecture, but I will have to say, most people don't know they have a talent in something until they try it. If BorisSF tries it, and likes it, its all up to him to make something of himself in it. I have to agree with Venusome in this one way, if you want to be an actor/actress, you can't just work your way into it. But you still can work in different ways to get into acting. All you need to do is to take a chance.

Computers have been a major interest since I was in middle school--ended up majoring in computer engineering.

Plenty of jobs. Lots of money (if you're really good at it). Stay away from helpdesk monkey work and become an expert at something specific (i.e. networking, databasing, security, etc.).

I think to really excel in anything you have to have an aptitude for it. I could never be a doctor. Sure, with a bunch of tutoring and forcing myself to study things I hate I could get there I guess, but I could barely pass biology in college. I just didn't "get" it. My brain just doesn't work that way. But there are enough fields out there to go into that you should be able to figure out what you like and are good at that is a good fit for you.

Find what you like and go from there. I went into college an engineering major, left as a double major in philosophy and business. Don't worry if your life isn't set in stone right away. As long as have an idea of what you want to guide you, you'll be ok. You never know what will happen or pop up, but keep focused on your goals and the rest will take care of yourself. If you just chase down the money you'll make some but hate your work. Trust me, having a job you like is much more worth it than one that pays extremely well (not that there's anything wrong with making a lot of money, but if all you want is money you'll quickly discover how empty that path is). Just have a general idea of where you'd like to be, and work hard and smart to get there. My advice is sample a lot of different things, that's what college is for, to try new stuff see what you like and what suits you. That's just my 2cents.

I stopped checking this thread after yoda posted so I didn't notice that so many of you responded

Thanks a ton for the info all, I've decided on Business / Management because all my life I've always been good with money, conserving money, as well as "thinking outside the box" from the time to time so I think the business field would be a good fit for me

Once again, thanks for all the feedback :)
