Hi, Recently I found out some problem with my F360. When I cruise very slowly in the carpar with dear 1 (F1 gearbox), the car will suddenly stop. I have to restared the engine again. Yesterday even worst, when I pass thru' the "hump" in the carpark, the engine stopped and the "check engine" light on. So I tried to restart the car and after several trial, I can start the car up. So I would like to know what's wrong with car? Is it related to using gear 1 at very low speed the car will easily stop? I just finished my yealy service 1 weeks ago and there is no problem at all for my car and the engine. Victor
You can stall the F1 system, just like with a normal clutch. This is what it sounds like you are doing to the car, as described by trying to go over the speed bump. Need to fully engage the clutch and get the car moving. Could also be overheated clutch, did you smell anything?? Good luck. Robert
I just had a problem similar this morning for the 1st time. My car completely stalled as I was slowing to make a right turn into my drive way. I let it shift itself down to 1st as I was going up the incline. It just stalled. It never happened before. I may have just caught the transmission at an awkward time. I drove it some more to try to re-create the issue, but it was fine and never stalled after several attempts. I did not see any F1 warning light.
I live in an area with many hills. If I try to drive up those hills at a slow speed having to stop and start at every intersection, my 360 F1 will stall and the clutch overheating light (check engine) will come on. If I drive up those hills at a faster speed, I have no clutch problems. If the clutch overheats the computer will not allow the car to restart until the clutch has cooled off. You may have been already driving in stop and go traffic before you drove into the car park and that already heated up your clutch. That speed hump probably stressed the clutch just enough to trigger the warning light. I suggest increasing the speed just a little before the speed hump, then coast over it instead of coming to a stop and then trying to gently accelerate over it. Stop and go traffic is your enemy, especially on uphill grades. I plan my routes to avoid those situations.
Sounds like you should ask the service center about this. May require a look at some of the clutch parameters such as PIS point of initial slippage. Remember to adjust the throttle to match the inclination of the road.
I experienced a stall at a traffic light the first day I took possession of my 360! Took about 10 minutes to restart....or at least it felt like that. Needless to say, I don't enjoy traffic lights and stop and go traffic as much as I would have had this not happened to me on day one. The car did have some more issues after that with the transmission and had the clutch and fly wheel replaced among other things while still under a warranty. Anyway, what do you mean by adjusting the throttle to match the inclination of the road exactly? What gear are you usually in when going up hill at a good pace? What about downhill? Is there a good gear to be in when going up or down a hill or do you just go by RPM's mainly? (I usually shift before reaching 4,000 - 4,500 regardless of the car's inclination).
When I had my 360, this happened to me twice. I had no idea what the heck was going on. Once was after a hard-drive through the hills, turn into a restaurant driveway and the car just died and rolled to a stop. It restarted fast enough, and no CEL, but was pretty weird. The second time I was just looking for a decent parking space and suddenly the car stalls. This time I was unable to restart the car immediately and it took about 5 minutes before the car would restart. It was hot out, but I wasn't driving in traffic. I believe both times the car stalled I was in 2nd gear and likely driving too slow. Instead of downshifting, the car decided to stall. After the 2nd time, I always made sure to downshift into 1st gear before crawling along. Frank
Hi Guys, It seems that I am not the only one who experienced this "stall" problem with the F1 gearbox. I am trying to avoid traffic but it is very difficult in HK. Some guys in other forum also suggests me to reset the F1 software and it may helps.
Victor- You said the F1 light came on, right? And the car stalled? Sounds like the F1 fluid level is low. Have you checked this? This happened to me as well. If the fluid gets too low, the car will 'self-protect' the F1 system, by turning off the car. It happened to me when I went over a speed bump, and I had a tiny leak at the bottom of the F1 reservoir, because of a loose hose clamp. Search the threads on the proper way to check the F1 fluid level. Theres about 10 different opinions on what is the actual correct way, and I believe the 2001(?) manual even has it printed incorrectly in it. Anyway, something to consider. Hunter
Thanks, Hunter. My case when the car stalled and F1 gearbox failure lights on is happened when I have a traffic in the city and tried to climb up a hill very slowly. The service people told me that it is because the clutch is over-heated and it tried to protect the clutch. I will avoid to drive the car in traffic in city.
Hi guys, Im new here, I would like to introduce myself with this post: I bought a 360 F1 year 2000 6 months ago the car is great 28000 miles but there is a world between the 360 and my other Ferrari a 308 Quattrovalvole of course 16 years! Anyhow recently I noticed that sometimes the car stalls in first or in second gear when driving at low rpm, but after that, putting it in neutral, the engine restart immediately and the red transmission light shut down. I ve seen some of you had the same problem. My question is: someone have found the real reason of this problem? Reading the different thread, and following the procedure of Ferrari north America, I understand that the reservoir of f1 fluid is overfilled but I dont think that is the reason! Many thanks in advance for your answers!! Dino
I have a 2000 360 and at 6500 miles this was going on with my F1 trans. The Ferrari dealer in orlando Fl. put in a few parts and clutch under warranty. They said it was a update to correct the problem. I have 26000 miles on it now and have not had any other problems, it was in for service last year and they checked the clutch reading it was 50% Good luck Peter
Hi Peter, In my case, the light appear after the car shut down and according to the invoices the first owner gives me, the clutch and flywheel were changed at 17 500 miles. Of course it was 10 000 miles ago and your was changed at 6500 miles.... so it could be the clutch! Thank you for your answer Dino
Hi FRVETT --- can you ask your Ferrari dealer exactly what caused the stall problem on your 360, and what the update was to control the problem? We are trying to get to the bottom of this here and that would be a big help! Thanks!
it seems like everyone has this problem at least once..i had this problem once...and had it fixed....it was the f1 sensor. But when i took it in i had to replace the clutch as well.
Reviving this thread to see if anyone ever definitively figured out why the 360 suffers from this problem of periodically shutting down while in 1st or 2nd gear at slow speeds and what the sure way to remedy the problem was? It's certainly more serious than simply calling it a "stall".
