I'm trying to put together an electronic list of the best/scenic/curvy roads that we could take our cars out to. I'm not one to keep my prancing horses in the garage. Have to drive 'em!! Below is a partial/in-progress list of great places. Please ADD to this as u please. PLEASE COPY THE LIST BELOW, PASTE it as a new version and then do a FRESH repost. It'll keep the thread clean and we'll have a nice list at the end. Thank You!! - aLV ============== COPY / PASTE FROM HERE ========= -- Europe -- 1) Davos - Stelvio (Stelvio Pass) 2) Nürburgring Nordschleife (55 miles SW of Cologne) 3) "Route des Vins from Molsheim-Colmar-Freiburg-Offenburg-Strasbourg 4) Apennines (Close to Modena) -- USA -- California: 1) Death Valley National Park 2) Highway 1 (California Coast) 3) Angeles Crest Highway (California Route 2) La Canada Flintridge to Wrightwood 4) Glendora Mtn Road 5) PCH 6) Mullhuland Drive 7) Mulholland Hwy 8) Hwy 74 Temascal Canyon 9) Angeles Crest HWY 2 10) Hwy 280 north of San Jose 11) Rim Of The World Scenic Byway 12) hwy 46 (James Deans last ride) 13) Interstate 5 near Bakersfiled with no traffic (165 mph) 14) Hwy 101 LA to SF 15) 110 freeway PAsadena to LA (also first LA freeway) early sunday morngin is best. 16) Portuguese Bend (runs through the Palos Verdes penninsula) OTHER USA : 1) Deals Gap (US 129, NC and TN) 2) Million Dollar Highway (US 550 between Durango and Ouray, CO) 3) Death Valley National Park 3) Great Smokey Mountains (Highway 129), Tennessee 4) Blue Ridge Parkway 5) Glenn Highway/SR1 south of Anchorage -- Africa -- 1) Atlas Mountains (North - South) 2) -- Asia -- 1) 2) 3) -- Australia -- 1) 2) 3)
A cool route in Canada, near Toronto, is the road at the Forks of the Credit river. There is an amazing hairpin turn - if I find a good pic or link I will add. Chris
I have always wanted to find a list of the best road in Europe. Keep em coming. On the way from Nice to Monaco, the is a road, I forget the name, that is considered one of the most beautiful. Overlooks the Mediterranean.

La Grande Corniche? It's featured prominently in that old Hitchcock movie from the 50s "To Catch a Thief" (worth watching anyway). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ48kqGa_N4

Also for people who are interested in driving holidays etc there are several tour operators in Europe, at least, which specialize in such travel. I booked a tour in France myself, i will only be staying in castles ( turned hotels) driving on scenic roads.

Subscribing, really a great idea. Also, one good trick is to buy books intended for bikers. Those roads tend to be nice.

There are a couple of drives I have done in Italy that are challenging and scenic. One is from Florence to Bologna via Futa and Raticosa passes which is one of the classic legs of the MM. Drove it in the sunshine and can't believe that it was a night leg in terrible weather. The other is from Maranello to Lucca via Abetone Pass. I don't think the road is straight for more than a hundred yards at a time.
Whoever put the road from Greenwich to Bedford needs to remove it. We're talking about the best roads in THE WORLD here. Yes, for the area, it's a decent route, but relative to the entire planet, it shouldn't be anywhere on this list. And WTH is so special about Old Montauk Hwy? We're comparing THOSE roads to the best in the world? Those aren't even the best in the state.
Just so happen to be in Zürich sat morning and need to be back on Sunday evening, so Europe NR 1 Davos - Stelvio, here I come. Can someone point me to a good site or info about the road or tell other things that I should do and don't. Thanks! Oh and btw. My navi is apparently Scandinavia only, so if you have some great driving directions, please post. Also a hotell or alike near stelvio any one can recommend?
Earlier this summer, I drove these roadways to be unbelievable: From St. Moritz, Switzerland to Lake Como, Italy (45-60 minutes); and From Forli, Italy to Florence, Italy on "SS67" (a few hours). I drove an Audi A8 but wish I had my 430 - incredible!!

I have two, both in the same state. You can't go very fast of either, but curves: yes. Scenery: Like heaven 1.) Road to Hana, Maui HI- about as gorgeous a drive as there can be on planet earth. 2.) Waimea Canyon Drive (to Kalalau overlook), Kauai, HI. Curvy and hilly- like driving on the rim of the grand canyon
