I am thinking about repainting a 275gtb its original color, verde scuro. Any photos of cars painted in this color would be appreciated. It's between that or a very dark red. thanks.

Come on Matt. The world doesn't need another red 275GTB.

If you give me the chassis number I will be able to tell you the real original colors, most probably including the paint code.

Matt, please no green....More suitable for jag's or other english mass productions. A 275 deserves a lighter colour (yellow suits fine :) so the design comes out better and saves you all the misery of taking the car apart. Buy a Dino for that (+some) money....(in silver) in bad shape and do all the things you have done on your 275.

    ciao

I disagree. I think a 275GTB (or even a GTO) looks great in dark green, dark blue, or dark burgandy

From period Scaglietti color chip book, the color of interest is Verde Scuro Ferrari with code number 20-G-186 (Glidden Salchi paint). It is very, very dark green, non-metallic.

We had the same (subjective) discussion on a dino thread. Darker colors hides the shape, lighter colors shows it. Also the agressive vents can only be seen with lighter colors on a 275. The discussion at the Dino forum was about a black Dino, no offense but IMO it does not show the nice curvatures of these cars. More rude cars like a Pantera/Esprit or even a Countach does look nice in black (well in every color).

    ps I am color blind.......

Oscar: I have the same feelings myself about loosing all the shadow lines on the car with a dark color. Fly yellow looks great on this model but if I decide to strip it I may go with something that does not stand out so much. Thank you everyone for your advice and photos. It really helps me. As much as I would like to return the car to its original color, after looking at the photos I just can't do green on a 275gtb. I love the color, but not on this model. If I decide to take the plunge, I will post the project on the 275gtb returning to life thread. It will be very dark red or keep the same fly yellow. Thanks again everyone.

There are at least 8 different Verde Medio which Ferrari used:

    Verde Medio 106-G-29
    Verde Medio 19400 M Italver
    Verde Medio 19947 A Italver
    Verde Medio 19947 M Italver
    Verde Medio 2.443.561
    Verde Medio 6337013
    Verde Medio Metallizzato
    Verde Medio Niyinsky Italver

The 275 GTB we talk about in this thread was originally Verde Scuro 20-G-186 with Beige VM 3309 leather.

I like dark colors because it hides some of the detail. It makes it easier to see the actual silhouette of the car

The Verde Medio in the original Scaglietti Ferrari colors booklet from 1966 is labelled Verde Medio Metallizzato 106-G-29, Glidden Salchi code, light metallic green. I would assume that this would have been the typical Verde Medio color used on a 275GTB built by Scaglietti. Italver colors seem to be typical for cars built by Pininfarina. (Would you agree with this Marcel?) Each coachmaker appears to have had their preferred paint brand and their own interpretation of the colors of the same name. Of course, it is often said that one could choose whatever you wanted back then and the factory may or may not have been willing to accommodate on a given day.

Using a modern Ferrari color for reference in trying to associate historic colors is fruitless, comparing apples to oranges; the interpretations are different even for the same names; the paints are different, especially for metallic paints where the flake size and composition varies compared the older colors, which I think were finer.

Thank you for these photos. I got to admit, I am starting to like it more. Is that the Eastwood car?

The original colors of 08359 were Grigio Notte 106-E-26 with Nero 8500 interior. Night gray with black interior.
08359 was sold new 22nd March 1966 through official Ferrari dealer VECAR Srl. in Rome to first owner Polar Film, a movie company owned by Dino De Laurentiis. Price paid was Italian Lire 5'750'000. On the 31st March 1966 it was given by Dino De Laurentiis Cinematographia SpA to actor Clint Eastwood as a gift for the movie “Le Strege” (”The Witches”). 6th April 1966 shipped on the vessel "SS Michelangelo" from Naples, Italy to New York, NY/USA. Then brought to Nevada by Eastwood and repainted green metallic (in USA). Today owned by a collector in Verona, Italy.

This is 275 GTB/4 #09831, the famous Daniel Del Rio (NY stockbroker) car, described by Michael Lorrimer in "Automobile Quarterly" (Vol. VIII #2 of Fall 1969). Color also known as "Del Rio Green" but it is actually the factory Verde Medio 106-G-29 and has the Arancia 3104 leather (orange). Note factory outside fuel filler cap and no bumpers.

I think that color combination is beautiful. I'm really tired of red Ferraris.
