    Gang,

Harrah's has informed me that there IS a registration deadline for the weblink to get the group discount rate. Previously, I have sent this out when I receive payment, however, since they have imposed a deadline, I'm going to post it here.

THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THE GROUP DISCOUNT RATE AT HARRAH'S IS SEPTEMBER 15, 2008. You can book your hotel rooms using the following link:

    https://www.harrahs.com/CheckGroupAvailability.do?propCode=GTU&groupCode=S103088

THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTERING FOR THE EVENT IS: OCTOBER 4TH IF YOU ARE MAILING AND 7TH IF YOU ARE FILLING OUT VIA EMAIL AND PAYPAL. I'm leaving on that Thursday to drive down to Tunica, so I won't be here to get your registration if you do it late.

    Thanks!

    JIM

I thought you guys might like to see the 'official' press release that is going out for the event. This will be in local papers, Memphis Magazine, etc...

Ferraris to Gather in the Mid-South

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (September 2, 2008) –– If you drive one, you will come….. At least that’s the thinking of Ferrari 308 owners from across the country who will gather at Harrah’s Casino in Tunica, Mississippi to celebrate the Ferrari 308 model in 2008 during the weekend of October 10-12, 2008, culminating in an exotic car show open to the public on Saturday, October 11. What began as an idea in the minds of Ferrari owners chatting on FerrariChat.com has evolved into plans for a national event in the center of the country near Memphis, Tennessee.
“Forza Ferrari! 308s in '08: A celebration of a legendary model” will be a historic national drive-in event for ALL Ferraris, as members of the Ferrari Club of America, Ferrari List and Memphis Cars Italia join in a celebration of the 308 model. This includes all Ferrari 308-derived cars from the 308GT4 to 308-328GTB/GTS models, as well as Ferrari 288s and the fabled F40s. The Ferrari 308, a model often called the Magnum P.I. Ferrari because it “starred” in the 1980s TV series, represents one of the most popular Ferrari models in history.
A sampling of new and vintage Ferrari cars expected to participate in Forza Ferrari! 308s in ’08 include Ferrari 308s, 328s, 430s and many others; as well as cars from the Ferrari Club of America and several Ferraris brought by Foreign Cars Italia from North Carolina.
Most car shows are regional, but organizers say this one will be a national event drawing participants from across the country. All proceeds from this special event will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. The three-day event will feature several activities for car club members, including a tech session at Extreme Auto in Memphis and a welcome dinner for members on Friday, the public car show itself on Saturday – to be held in the north parking lot between Harrah’s Casino and its hotels, and an autocross for members on Sunday. The weekend Ferrari gathering started out as an online conversation about doing something special for Ferrari 308s since this year is ’08, and the idea took off from there, according to FORZA FERRARI organizer Jim “Shadow” Wilcox.
Come join Ferrari owners, fans and Tifosi alike and spend some time with gorgeous Italian beauties – a day full of marvelously crafted sports and exotic Ferraris open to the public – at Forza Ferrari! 308s in '08 at Harrah’s Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, Saturday, October 11, 2008. This will be one event where you will want to bring the family! Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children (ages 2-12). 308s in '08 – benefiting Habitat for Humanity and sponsored by Harrah’s Casino – is organized and presented by FORZA FERRARI. Joe,

Sunday is somewhat up in the air. The autocross has proven to be a dud, so it has been cancelled unfortunately. We will do some sort of drive/pocher run, etc... on Sunday to kick people out. I'll have that figured out shortly.

Also, sorry for not responding to your route post earlier. I'll be driving the following route: I69 to I465 to I70 into Illinois then I57S down towards Memphis to I55 then I61. Hopefully I'll be able to hook up with someone along the way. More fun to drive in a group!

There are approx a dozen plus the cars that FCI is bringing down. I have quite a few who have emailed saying that they are coming but have not sent in registration yet...All in all I'm thinking 25-40 cars depending on how many register between now and the begining of Oct.

Hey Jim. Just wanted to add my public vote of confirmation. I'll be there along with Ric Rainbolt. If possible, we're going to bring my 308GTB and Ric's 360 Modena. The goal is to trailer one and drive the other. That way, if we have any mechanical problems, we'll have a trailer to get the ailing car home. Little faith you say? Houston and Dallas are a LONG way away... ;-)

    Joe,

I believe that there is going to be 1 other that will be trailered there. :)

On a side note, looking at the distances that people are driving to get to Tunica, we are over 3,000 miles that will be driven just to get to the show!

Jim, Do you know what access we will have to a car wash once we get there at the casino? I'm guessing there will be lots of bugs and road grime on the cars from some of these distances being traveled. I'll detail my car before heading out but I'd hate to display my car without a touchup. If the casino could just give us access to a water hose in the back lot somewhere it would make it easy. Just a thought. Joe

    Joe,

Great question. This has been addressed, but not discussed here. Harrah's will allow us access to a hose, but we're not 100% sure where that area will be.
I may just leave mine dirty to show what 622 miles looks like in a GT4. ;)

Come on Paul, you only live once!! Drive that 308 on out. :)

We have in the neighborhood of 20 or so and a bunch of guys who say they are going to do it but have not registered yet. I even have a couple who have reserved rooms, but have not registered their cars yet...I have not counted them.
I'm waiting for the Memphis guys to step up and register. Where is the local presence? (I do have a couple locals, but not as many as I thought yet..:) )

    Jim,
I forgive you, that a whole lot better than what the lady said when I was first trailering it home.

I was in a rest area checking the tye downs on the Ferrari and admiring our new car when a very nice older woman walked up and said "That sure is a pretty car, and it's so shinny, you must wax it a lot, It's a Firebird isn't it"

I got in the truck and told the wife "it's going back!"

There are a few very special cars that are planning on coming out. I'm expecting their registrations soon, so I don't want to make any promises yet, but there is the possibility of a couple Ferraris that you just don't see everyday.

Additionally, there are a couple groups who are caravaning from different areas. This is a GREAT opportunity to meet up with fellow owners along a route and caravan in to the show. I'm going to try to hook up with someone along the way (Joe?) depending on how early I need to be down to Harrah's. Currently I'm planning on leaving Thursday morning.

If you have not registered, don't forget the Hotel discount link expires on 9/15....

That can't beat the time at a local show when a woman asked me if I needed some hubcaps for my new Mustang.......she was confused because on her Mustang the horse was galloping and mine was "reearing up"
