    Hi Folks !

    I'm to buy a very nice 365 GT4 2+2, chassis # 18919, 1st reg. in France : 24th April 1976.

It looks like it's at least one of the very last 30 made.

    But question :

Are the 4 rear lights and orange front turn lights original (besides, the rear panel is no more matt black).

Could we consider that it is quite an essay for the 1st 400 relesased in October 1976 (so prototypes made several monts before), or have I to consider that the car was modified, and I have to put it in its original shape ?

I've taken a look in my archives and down there, and, if can finf modified 365 w/ orange front lenses, I've not found any other w/ 4 rear lights.

    Thanx for your answers.

The four tail lights are correct for a late car, I have read on this website here....

And the amber front lenses are often a specific requirement of your Country....France.....

I am not an expert on this model, though :(.....you might want to send a private message to member 'dstacy', if he does not respond here in due time...

Note his solid amber tail lights with low mounted reverse light, while your bicolor versions match my North American 1976 and 1977 308GTBs.......Good Luck!

Erik Neilson also owns a 365 GT4 2+2 that has four rear lights instead of six. I believe he told me that it came like that from the factory - but hopefully he'll chime in here personally. I'm almost certain that your front lenses are stock. I cannot speak about the rear lights - especially with the orange ones on the outside (Erik's orange rear lights are the inner rear lights).

Also there are over 40 365 GT4 2+2s whose serial numbers are higher than 18919.

Can you tell us more about 18919...? Current mileage, number of owners, engine number, assembly number, stuff like that...?

Sfumato also talked about the rear lights in his (Eric's) Garage Owner' thread.....

Which year is the one you are speaking about ?

    Is there any 365 GT4 register ?

As regards 18919, I only know at the moment its standing kilometers : @ 75.000 km.

I'm waiting for all the other infos. I even have difficulty to get the original paint code...

I don't know in the US, but here, at these prices, that kind a car "only" interest people w/o any money, and who cannot afford the cost of maintenance or repairing, and they don not bear in mind whether their car is or will be original when they touch it up.

    ;-((

My car in question is 18759. Niether PF nor Ferrari have records of actually making the change, but even John Apen (of FAF) said that they looked original when he did my insurance inspection years ago.

I've seen one in the UK and one in Belgium with the same configuration as mine over the years. One of those mysteries owning a very low production late model Ferrari...

I would not read too much into the lack of documentation on Ferrari's behalf on this one, they still haven't found records of what color my much later 308 GTS QV was when it left the factory. The records leave a lot to be desired...

That's a very valid question. But you tend to understand how the system works in Italy the longer you're in this hobby...

    Marcel,

where have you got this info from? Wow! Do you know that from all 365/400? Mine is a '78 400A with the serial number 24437 (Engine: 00291), probably delivered to Switzerland. Can you do your magic on mine as well?

    Thanks and all the best

Hi, I live in France. I remember having seen such a blue car for sale in the Marseille area some years ago, registered 13 the plate was clear on the picture. By the way, Jody Scheckter's car is for sale again.

Hi, I confirm in Europe prices are quite low for this model, despite it tends to go up. Though, I am afraid I disagree with the analysis about people w/o any money for different reasons :
1- in case someone w/o any money would buy a Ferrari just to be considered as a Ferrari owner, he would not buy a 365GT4 or a 400 -that definitely does not look as the 'red flashy Ferrari'- but rather a 308 or a Mondial.
2 - change from a 3 tail lights to a 2 tail lights won't save any money. According to my readings and web browings, most of the cars for sale I saw in Europe seem to have been kept in the original state. I never saw a 'V8 chevy' powered car or a two-tone paint.
3 - my humble experience is that the owners I met were not w/o any money, even if they were not billionnaire. It is notorious that these cars are expensive to own. Why would someone w/o any money jeopardizes himself ? A chapter 11 temptation?
4 - every week end a french blue chip ceo who lives next to me goes on week end with his 400, I planned to buy a maserati from a guy who also owned a 400 and a 456, so it does not 'only' interest people without any money.
    Just my opinion.

I hope it is not to late to give some final ( and acccurate ) information on this car and its 4 tail lights. I bought it last month with my brother, but the car already belonged to my father from 1980 to 1989. I was ten when he sold it and sweared I would get it again! When we eventually found it she joined 3 other 400's and she was introduced to the Ferrari Club 400 that I set up in 2006. An important date in the life of this car is 1988: the car was damaged nearby les Champs Elysees, so my father ordered a complete restoration processed by Lecoq and Ferrari: the car changed color ( from grey to Red), the engine was rebuilt and enhanced ( 390 Hp, prepared for Ferrari by Galmier near Paris) and the 4 tail lights were installed. Why? Because Ferrari Italy could not deliver the 6 tail lights as spare parts! the 4 tails light were still produced for the 412 and the 308, so it became the usual sourcing for all owners and garage restoring or reparing a 365. The owner from 1989 to 2001 changed the color in blue, and drove 3000 km as a whole. The car drove an additional 10 000 km and came back to us!

I have all the bills of this car from 1976 to 2010, and for sure she will not leave the family before long.

There is a new passion for the 400 in Europe ( in the US as well?), and as President of the 400 Club, I just see that owners are more and more investing in expensive rebuilt . There are fewer bad cars on the market. It is high time to get one!
