OK guys, I'm almost afraid to say this but,,,,,,,,,,,(ducking under the desk in anticipation of rocks and daggers being thrown), I bought a Porsche today. No...I've not gone over to the "dark side". My Lincoln SUV is killing me on the 60mile daily commutes with the gas situation plus I don't want to wear out a very nice luxury SUV. I love the sexy voice in the Factory GPS, she speaks French too! I don't want to drive the Ferrari for a daily driver either. So...I've been looking at the Audi TT's, MB SLK's and the Boxter's for a couple of months. I test drove this Boxter about a month ago, enjoyed the ride but kept looking at others. The owner called this morning with a deal I couldn't pass up so its now mine. IS anyone else driving on the "dark side"? :)

i have an 02 boxster and 02 911 c4s and must say that i enjoy driving the boxster almost more than the 911. such a fun, easy-to-drive car. now, i'm trying to sell the 911 and go to the "red side"....

I've had Porsches for daily drivers for over ten years -- all 944s.

I've done well over 150k miles in 944s, and you can't beat them for their combination of performance, fuel economy, practicality, reliability, durability, and style. In that regard, I think the Boxster/Cayman are the next 944, and I wouldn't mind trading seats that hold grocery bags for having the engine where it belongs!

Since you got a good price, you are probably a couple/few years ahead the depreciation curve; you should get more than your money's worth in fun transportation. :)

I think a lot of exotic car owners have Porsches as daily transport. Good buy on your part.

I'm driving a Cayman S right now, not as a daily, though. Oddly enough, whenever I mention my plans to procure a Ferrari in the near future, my P car friends say, "Ah, going over to the dark side, are you?" All of these "sides" look pretty bright to me :)

To me the dark side from Ferrari always was and is Lamborghini.

But a P-car can be a nice alternative as a daily driver,,, though not for me ;)

I must admit that I like Boxters a lot, my neighbor has one and looks like so much fun ... go to the store, whatever - no problem. With that said, he comes over one day to introduce himself, looks in my garage and goes .... Oh ****, you win! He spotted my 308, ha ha ... I laughed. I have a nicely kept 96 Collector's Vette as a more of a regular car and I often think that the Boxter would be a nice exchange for it, especially at the price point for them ....

Please keep us informed how you like driving it, because I'm NOT signing up in the Porsche forum to find out. ;-) and me too, I though the dark side was Lamborghini, ha ha?

I have had 10 Porsche cars over the last 30 years. The correct pronunciation is Por-Cha. I sold my 911 2 years ago, some regret. They are so many available I can always get another one. Ferraris on the other hand are fewer and harder to find. There is magic about Ferrari. You don't see 20 to 30 Ferraris everyday like you see Porsche, Audi, MB, and VW. Porsche is probably one of the best cars of all time.

I am Ferrari less at the moment but I will soon have another Ferrari, probably a 308.

    Enjoy your Porsche 986.

    Well,

    I THINK this counts as a Porsche :) ...

1979 924 Mocha Schwartz exterior/black interior, original paint, 4 time PCA parade preservation class winner, and featured in Excellence magazine. Actually pretty fun to drive, but I mostly show it. I love the comments sometimes. .."someone actually bothered to SAVE one of these ??!!", etc....

    Hi Capt Ron,

Yup, this is the one. If you know the gentleman I bought it from (Phil), great guy, and I love the car. Great story from his wife about how they ended up with this color (they bought it new in ' 79). Truth be told, in my mind, my 308 is more replaceable to me than this 924, regardless of how much more $$ it cost.

    Hello Art,
I thought it looked familiar, that car is well known throughout the region, as well as the national level.
I'm certainly glad to see it ended up with someone who appreciates it, and will continue to maintain it at the level it deserves.

    Best regards,
    Ron

    Hi Ron,

I've had it for almost 3 years now, I do love it. The only people I could see ever selling it to would be BACK to Phil or someone in his family. I've shown it quite a bit since I got it from him, poured way more into it maintenance-wise than any sane man would on a 924. Here it is with the late, great, Bob Holbert, after I just got it serviced there.
