I have a 1987 328 GTS. Due to some drivability symptoms, I checked the fuel filter today. Mine is quite hard to blow through. I have owned a number of other vehicles that use Bosch fuel filters. They are all easy to blow through. I suspect that my filter needs to be replaced.

I happen to have a new Bosch filter for an 8 cylinder Mercedes. Its Bosch number is 0450905603. The Bosch number for the Ferrari is 0450905601. The fittings are interchangeable and the physical size is the same. Can I use the Mercedes filter in the Ferrari or will I be struck down by a lightening bolt if I do? The output for the Mercedes engine was 285 hp. A note has been sent to Bosch asking about the differences in the filters. But the more sources, the better.

    What do you think?

PS. O2 sensor is also being replaced.

Some fuel pumps have a check valve associated to maintain fuel pressure in the accumulator overnight. This might account for the blow effort difference.

Well, I cannot use the Mercedes filter. The OD is 2mm larger and it won't fit through the mounting hoop. I'll pick the filter up locally. It's a common filter in the Volvo vehicles.

If the one from a 308 will work for you, I have 2 brand new still in box that I won't need as I ordered 2 when I only needed one, and then got a major service kit which included another! [email protected] Dennis

    Dennis,

Thanks for the offer. I purchased the filter the other day and installed it. Just out of curiosity, I cut the old one with an air chisel so I could see what is inside. The filter medium is a rectangle of paper, the smaller dimension of which is twice the length of the filter and about 7 feet long. It is folded in the middle (long dimension), rolled up and stuffed in the canister. The open ends of the fold, now a spiral, provide the entrance for the fuel. The threaded ends are actually steel nuts in the ends of the cannister - separate pieces.

Once again, thanks anyway. The Bosch number is 0450905601.

With the new O2 sensor and a fuel filter that allows lots of flow, my 328 is now quite happy.

No problem Lawerence, I have a lifetime supply for my 308! Now oil filters, that's a different story, I use 2 per season! Ciao, Dennis
