I am surprised none of the aftermarket tuners include a "coil on plug" conversion as part of the upgrade package...

It was done here by an f-chatter. Never saw the dynos, but he said it noticeably improved driveability. Heck, every modern car has it now.

Yep, We are gonna do it.....I can tell you that the ass dyno shows improvement...You can feel the difference in JUGS :) but really big power gains are gonna be hard to get...Enginefixr raised each port I believe 23 cfm by extensive porting and well there is the JUGS.....

I just want more....Besides Don can beat me know and the weasel just will NOT allow that :)

I would definitely be interested in seeing you post the results here. I am dubious that there is much left, and understand that to extract whatever might be left, could potentially be at the expense of added wear and tear. I am sure Ferrari takes into consideration more than simply emission requirements. They must consider engine life, warranty calls, etc.

Goth, I think you should just post TONS of Jug pictures in the P&R section.. Those guys---(Always the same bunch I may add) need both a reality check and a personality transplate.....

I think we should bust up that forum with "jugs" after all who doesn't like jugs??????????????

I think some people are in way over their head with some of the figures named...., 10K for some port & polish, 500K for developing...no way.

i reckon 450PS @ the fly is fairly easily met.

Get a full exhaust done, high flow manifolds & cats (or no cats. better sound to;)). some port & polish, free flow airfilter and remap the computer (higher rev limit, close to 10K rpm?). if you feel like opening the engine up its maybe worth it to go with slightly higher compression forged pistons, .5 oversize possibly. you can get custom pistons made by JE for a very reasonable price.

you dont need to spend 10 gazillion just because its a ferrari. you'll find that the factory map is fairly mild to get the car though emission tests and to keep greenpeace happy.

I see you've come from GTR's, which one did you have, and are you perhaps a member of GTRoc?

    :)

I like the turn this thread has taken!!!

As for the power...yeah more would be welcome, I was disappointed the first time going WOT in the 355. But I'm not about to risk a $30k+ engine for another 30 hp or something. If I want to go fast I hop in the STi :D

But weight savings on the other hand I'm all for, I just wish there were some easy pickings...back to the overall car value, I'd hate to put on some lightweight bumpers just to have insurance not cover a fender bender that easily adds up to $10k+.

Sorry to disappoint on the throttle body story-it's not finished yet-hopefully soon. I've said this many times-just one more thing to do-rig up a signal wheel for the Haltech.
As for the 355 horsepower....send chocolates to Goth, BCWAWright, DaveHelms and a few others who don't listen to those ignorant enough to believe nothing further can be done. They're extremely knowledgeable and nice guys to boot.
Check out the thread "348 on a diet" for ideas on lightening the car-it's like free horsepower. I heard somewhere that 100lbs is like 15hp. Start by chunking those 60lb each seats! It's like kicking a fat chick out of the car!

which have the best effect on these guys, Dark, Milk or White chocolates?

I'll check out that thread, Im a huge fan of weightloss, plus, my 355 is all black leather, which apparently is pretty rare....the leather in it is still immaculate, so I was going to remove and replace with other light interior regardless and put the original stuff in storage...I plan to use the car a lot, so I dont really want to ruin the rare interior with something like a drink spill etc.

As for the throttle bodies, your thread was a great help anyway even tho you didnt finish yet in deciding some of the steps I want to take and things I need to do. Im going to be working on the car over the winter period, so if I have it working and finished before yourself, maybe I can contribute and give ideas to you as your thread did for me :)

308QV twin turbo....modified cams made a big difference.....8:1 compression, also got big improvements in TE with redesigned piston rings. Mated to a Hewland(magnesium case) 5 spd sequential gearbox....sweet to drive.

With 89 electronics package we could get 750 reliable race hp and could turn the wick up to approx. 900+hp for short bursts.

So what does all this mean for some really serious boost(20-30lbs)on a 355??????????? I might be more inclined to use a 4V head so I could modify cams(can't do on a 355).....hmmm, wonder if the 348 heads will fit a 355?? Re-use 355 throttle body's, drop compression down(will head studs and gaskets hold at full boost??), and MOTEC?? Forget porting and a fancey headers, just a waste of $$$$, put that money in oil and coolant system upgrades....30lbs of boost produces killer temps.

Getting the electronics set-up is going to be the BIG issue......may cost you an engine or two, and don't forget about dyno time.

OOOPS, forgot about that flywheel.....you had better think this thru as that 355 dual-mass flywheel is not going to like your big hp mods.

Dropping down to 8-10lbs of boost??? Well, this is alot more do-able without all that other crap to worry about.

Well, I must say that it will be the biggest "bang for the buck", or should I say "the most costly big bang".

It would either rival the melt down at Chernobyl, or accelerate engine parts faster than the Large Hadron Collider in France.
