Agreed LH had the advantage of new inters but it wasn't such a huge advantage, he was still on the wrong tyres for the conditions, as Rubens proved.

I'm pretty sure you're mistaken there - The SpeedTV guys were in a state of shock that no one reacted to RB's times by also going with full wets. In fact all the way through until the end of the show they *kept* saying it - Got a little "annoying" at the end. LH did put on "new" inters but not wets.

    Cheers,
    Ian

+1 I'm fairly 100% certain LH got "new" inters not full wets.

    Thats how I remembered it.

ITV stated plainly that the Mclaren does not run well on full wets at all. That was the basis for the inters for the entire race. Something about the "leaning" effect of the tire. Its a bit taller with the extra tread is what I gathered. Rubens at one point was closing at 13 sec a lap. I wonder if the Ferrari suffers like the Mclaren supposedly does.

    And you right.

But all the Silverstone madness was because the Ferrari setup was for a dry race you can clearly see the times of the 2 Ferraris .800 faster than any one at the middle of the race just when the track dry.

Well, if you insist on a bump - Massa did absolutely nothing in the last two races to demonstrate that he is any better in the rain than barely adequate. He's certainly no rain master, and if he were to win the title this year it will be in spite of his lack of speed in wet conditions. However, given the chances of wet conditions in the next three races, you'd have to be a real rabid Massa fan to be willing to put money on him succeeding in grabbing the title!

But then there's the fantastic lap times he laid down at Monaco, despite the bumbles by the team pit strategy.

I think what we saw at Monza is that the 2008 Ferrari is so rigidly sprung for aerodynamics that the car can't kerb hop or handle rain. The setup for Monaco would have been different, because of the tight street circuit, and it was apparently much better suited for wet conditions. But Monza is a fast track in the dry, so Ferrari didn't want to risk a wet setup.

In Silverstone, we saw Kimi settle for losing time each lap to the rest of the field, while Massa was pushing the car beyond its abilities. At Spa, Massa settled for what the car could manage, while Kimi pushed it into a wall. At Monza, they both settled for what the car could do, and neither of them looked very good.

I think what we've seen so far is that Ferrari's dry setup is faster than McLaren's, but can't handle changeable conditions as well. And it makes both Ferrari drivers look bad in the wet.

Silverstone, Spa, and Monza are all quick tracks in the dry, and Ferrari doesn't seem to be willing to gamble on a rain setup on fast tracks.
Even though it was pretty good odds that Monza was going to be wet.

or are modern tracks just what sucks? or the car regs.?

if passing were possible, we could better evaluate the drivers.

You cannot be serious about Massa not being a good driver. He has done such amazing tricks this season! The mechanics are the dumb ones. The whole management who changed Jean Totd with Domenicali. Whoever you want bunt not him.

Great all weekend? He put the car into the wall. Not that it mattered anymore at that point, but his drive wasn't flawless.

He did too. You might want to watch the last few laps again. The Speed commentators mentioned how hard that impact was. He was lucky to continue on.

If he had been in the lead at that moment, he would have lost it and it would be the #1 discussion on here. But since he was already at the end of the field it didn't matter. But a flawless drive it was not.

You must be confused.. massa crossed the finish line. Kimi lost it on the chicane the last few laps, not Massa. (going back through DVR trying to find it, maybe i missed it)

I started that Thread months ago, and Massa has been doing a great job for Ferrari, if he wins it this season he absolutely deserves it. Although I don't root for him, he has been doing a better job than Kimi.

He is not confused. You might want to watch that again ....... Massa got the wall as well, but he did continue on and cross the finish line.
