I had my 1980 out for a drive this weekend and everything was running great, oil pressure good and there appeared to be no problems. When pulled into the drive way and park the car I noticed oill drops on the ground, I put the car on my lift and saw oil coming from somewhere near the filter. I did remove the filter awhile back to replce the oil no proessure ligt sending unit and re-used the same oil filter, which appeared to be tight. I check the sending unit and it was not leaking, is it possible that the oil filter was causing this? That maybe since it was installed once that the gasket was to compressed? Is there an oil breather out let that may have spit so oil out? I am not sure if I have a major problem or just normal issues with a 308.

    Gary,

Suggestion -- clean up the engine really well and take the car out for a run. Then check to see if you can isolate where the oil is coming from. Reusing the oil filter could do it (try giving it a little more tightening with a filter wrench, but don't overdo it). Next time, if you are leaving the filter, don't bother removing it so you won't damage the seal. Leaks from that end can also be the rear main seal. So you want to clean the entire area up, take it for a run, and see exactly where the problem is.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

    Gary,

What did you remove when you replaced the "no pressure" sender unit?"
