    Fellow Ferrari drivers,

I am pleased to announce the Autostrada del Deserto driving event to kick off the start of a spectacular display of both Ferrari historic racing cars followed by road cars at the San Diego Automotive Musuem. The driving event will begin on Friday October 10 in Orange County and proceed down to San Diego where participants will lodge at the fabulous W Hotel in downtown San Diego. The drive will then proceed the following morning for a day long drive in the picturesque Eastern back roads of San Diego County, stopping for lunch in Pine Hills, followed by a spirited drive up and down Mount Palomar, and then making our way to a stop at Barona Casino, followed by a drive back into downtown San Diego for the opening of the Cavallino Rampante, arguably one of the best temporary collections of Ferrari Automobiles both racing and street in North America.

San Diego residents can join the group on Saturday morning signing up for the Modena package, or they can join the Orange County group at the start of the run on Friday in the Maranello Weekend package. Valet parking at the W Hotel, open to anyone with a Ferrari to join us on the run, FOC and FCA members encouraged to participate. Please see the attached signup form for more details or contact me for more information.

Probably join the group in the east county somewhere, and continue to town for the Saturday night fun... I'll be in touch-sounds like a great time.

No self parking? After all the horror stories on Fchat, Valet parking is generally a no-no.

This event will sell out and I encourage anyone who is interested to get your reservations in early. The value is exceptional and the “W” is treating this like it’s their biggest event of the year!

    See you then!

As mentioned by Jet-X, how do we get around the valet issue with this hotel? Last time at the Keating they were incredibly accomodating--let me take it with their valet accompanying me to the "secret place". Will the W do the same??? I know they are just cars, but for many valets it is just too much temptation, or they are just clueless. Either way, I can't afford to have someone else screw something up...

We have secured a private parking lot with private security guards directly across from the W where we can park our own cars.

The $195 for the Saturday event is for a boxed lunch and entrance to the museum? Is dinner at the museum included?

The opening includes many different food stations and drink but is not a proper dinner. It will be an excellent event! It is also a small fund raiser for the museum as the cost of the rally is almost break even.

Some fantasticly rare Italians both in the rallye and at the museum.

A 206 Dino, 330 GTC, 275, Lusso and Daytona all running the roads of the desert at speed and parked together at the museum entrance.
Kimi's 2007 greeted folks at the door and as you entered and once inside you passed a 288GTO, BB512LM, a 275GTC comp, and the 250 SWB - what an impact.

When they made the speakers' presentation it was divulged that several the factory historical photos on the wall were provided by the Italian Consulate. Even the news media was there

Yes, I was there last night. Amazing exhibit. Jon Shirley's 250 TR, in your photo, raced at Coronado a couple of weeks back. And the Alfa was featured in a recent Forza magazine.

Just incredible. I'll have to go back when the road cars are there.
