How likely would you be to go on the trip from September 18-21?

  1. 90-100% sure I would go, I can't resist a fun trip! :D

  2. 60-90% sure I would go, I like to have fun when work / family allow. :)

  3. 30-60% sure I would go, I rarely get to have fun. :(

  4. I'm just building my post count, I really don't like fun... ;)

The gas situation has improved. The lines aren't quite as long and the amount of stations without gas is around 30-40%. Some stations only have regular unleaded and some stations only have premium. Gas cans are advised and as mentioned in your posts, octane boosters are a great idea.

On a more positive note, the weather is beautiful right now with no rain in the forecast for the rest of the week. The trees in Atlanta are starting to show signs of fall colors early so it should be more profound in the mountains.

I drove the Cherohala Skyway this past summer and it was a blast. It was like a never ending roller coaster . One word of warning to the few of you that have never been.......stay to the right. Vehicles coming from the opposite side tend to drift in your lane.

Have a great time and post some pics when you get back!

Been running to the stores all week to get supplies..........

Portable GPS - to help navigate and see the upcoming curves on the roads, etc...
Power strip - to plug in the GPS, radar detector, phone, etc...
Small orange cones & glow sticks - in case someone breaks down.
Tire plug kit & cans of fix-o-flat - in case of flat tires.
40k candle power rechargable spot light w/ car adapter - in case we need to see in the dark.
Octane Boost - hopefully the gas situation will be ok & we won't need them.
six (6) walkie talkies/portable HAM radios - for all of us to talk on since cell service may be spotty.
MAD maps - ordered online - has highlighted scenic loops & drives.

Also packing my car cover, extension cords to plug in my car battery tender, cameras, tons of maps printed from the internet, travel humidor w/ cigars, radar detector, gangster rap CD's, tire pressure gauge, tools, small cooler, detail bag w/ cleaning towels, Scuderia South Florida T-shirts, etc, etc, etc......

    IT'S ON, BABY.....................

According to Weather dot com, the weather is going to be amazing......

    Thursday - Sunny - low 41, high 69 - only 10% chance of rain.
    Friday - Sunny - low 43, high 71 - only 10% chance of rain.
    Saturday - Sunny - low 46, high 76 - 0%, yes, 0% chance of rain.
    Sunday - Sunny - low 50, high 75 - only 10% chance of rain.

I called the Blairsville Chamber of Commerce and the guy who runs the tail of the dragon website earlier today. Both claimed that the gas situation isn't as bad in the mountains as it is in Atlanta, and it's getting better each day.

I am so excited to go, I just can't wait!!!

All is well as Fred, Richard, Robert and Bill converged on the North Georgia mountains. Cars were unloaded, stories exchanged and Bar B Que was had by all. They left Ferrari of Atlanta after lunch with their feet to the floor and their hair on fire for a 150 mile trek through some great mountain roads. I am sure there will be stories to tell. If anyone ever has to live in their 360, see Fred. He can cram more stuff into a 360 than I have ever seen. More to come, later.

    Wow, what a trip.
    More to come tomorrow.
Frito pie, and a slamming party in Murphy among other memories.
Fred is scared to eat pig intestines.
The new tires on the Ginetta were definitely worth the effort to get just before leaving...
Only one "Oh crap" moment for me while driving...

It was great seeing everyone and even more fun hearing about all the bad behavior that occured. You gentlemen certainly put a great trip together as evidenced by all the stories. Lets see some pictures.

I'm glad Gerorgia is on my mind (like the sign says). Smokies BBQ is not good at all. :( Hey, I can see some mountains now! Sunset on GA348 on the way to the cabin. The road at the cabin was too steep for my tow vehicle, so I unloaded on the incline, about 400 yards from the cabin. I was afraid the new tires would not stick to the pavement when I rolled the Ginetta off the trailer, but it all worked out okay.
    :)

I apparently earned the nickname "the roach" during my 'spirited' driving in the twisty mountain roads. Apparently I also have some thick blood because turning the heat on was not my preference. I don't mind building a fire (gasoline is a great starter), but artificial heat is not good. I bought my local mechanics breakfast this morning for getting my new tires mounted on short notice and servicing the van transmission the day before leaving. They probably also saved at least one motorcyclist's life!
Turn, turn, turn, gas! Tap the brakes, turn, gas, turn, gas, turn, turn, turn. Repeat this about 2000 times!
I'm really glad that the whole group made it up for the trip, it was AWESOME!!!
I plan on doing this again in the spring (unless I get a job by then).

It got a slow down light intermittently at first, then it stayed on occasionally.

    The roach races anybody.
I'm sure there are quicker cars (and obviously drivers) out there, but we did not find any of them on our trip.
One local guy in a Toyota Corolla was really quick, although he was using both lanes of the road. One young girl driving a red Ford Focus did okay also, making the following fun instead of frustrating.
Overall, the roads were not very crowded, and a few of them had almost no traffic at all. In two weeks there will be crowds everywhere looking at the leaves.
One fun stop was when Fred got the ice cream nazi in Cherokee, NC. "No cone for you!!!"
Then they wanted to charge Robert (IIRC) 30 cents for a water cup.
    HA!
