    Hello,

Well, as Neil Young says, rust never sleeps, so as soon as I saw this one on my ' 82 GTSi, I figured I should deal with it. This is my 2nd 308, so I'm well aware of the need to stay on top of this issue. I finally found a spot the size of my thumbnail right below the front left turn indicator right in the crease that defines the top part of the indented mold line in the nose. Maybe water gets into the headlight louvre, runs down and settles back there ?
In any event, I've been quoted $ 1000 to do the job from a reputable shop in my area. Spot fix, claims that it will be blended perfectly. I'm assuming the turn indicator must be removed, and the selling dealer (to me), who has serviced the car since 1983 has always told me that it is original paint (Rosso Corsa FER 300), although it looks too good otherwise to be so !! :) I maintain this car impeccably; if it needs it, I do it, so if this is a normal $$ for this then so be it, it will be done. I'm just seeing what other's experiences have been since this is my first dealing in a non-mechanical, cosmetic issue, and I'm sure there will be more in the future.

    Thanks guys,

I had a rust bubble on the front left quarter just in front of the door and above the black chip fix. Was about the size of a quarter. About $800 locally to have it cut out, a new piece of metal welded in, smoothed out and painted.

did they just do THAT or more work beneath. Often, when there's a tiny rust bubble in that region, there's 'more'.
Otherwise, if what you are describing was the only work, I have to say, sheet metal and paint jobs seem to be incredibly expensive in the US.
Or - sorry - you just paid, what we call ' Ferrari fees '.
For comparison; Last winter I had extensive structural rebuild jobs performed on my '72 Alfa coupé. Literally they rebuilt the whole front crossmember section due to rust problems and I paid around $ 1500,-- ( including ! $ 300,-- parts ) at the most reputable shop I could find locally.

    Best Regards from Germany

Last year I had both of my doors repaired due to the rust in the lower inside and under sill. The doors were removed and repaired with new metal then painted and installed. The outer skins were OK so all of the work was done in an area that was not to visible. I did not need to get the outer skins repainted. I went to a local guy I know who does car restoration and asked who he would recommend to take this job. He gave me the shop and owner's name and I went there. The whole deal cost me $1000 and took 4 days.

The part cut out was bigger than a quarter. The quarter was just what was showing on the outside. However, no structural work was done. And yes, paint and body is expensive in the US. Plus, the whole area has to be blended into the rest of the car. And on silver, that is a real PIA.

I had my driver side door repaired a year ago and driver side rocker panel behind the front wheel. The rocker panel had two bubbles that turned out to be in a previously poorly done patch. they removed the patch, put in new metal and removed the area in the door and patched. Also resprayed the front airdam, was about $1600. Shop was recomended by my independent mechanic.

Sounds fair to me as it runs about half that estimate anymore, just to buy the paint materials.....

Just had both doors repaired with new metal + engine cover soldered (had split at the base of "spoiler" level) + repairs of metal just in front of doors and other minor stuff = 1200 US all inclusive and this is Switzerland. ;)

Even though the rust area may be small, where it's located, sounds like the whole top section of the front bonnet plus both A-pilers will need to be repainted to blend it all together as ther are not many seams that can be used to end a paint line. Post some pics. Good luck.
