355 wheels are magnesium? I did not know that. Makes me want a set even more. I just bought new tires for my 348, and those wheels have got to be the heaviest I've ever lifted. Does anyone know how much 355 wheel weigh? How much do the 348 wheels weigh? Bee Jay
Some how I missed these pic's... My wheel finishes are in about the same condition as yours. The guys that ran these CH cars were definitely not into asthetics......did'nt they know that half the race is in how good your car looks..lol Guess if you used the words "lightweight" and "concours" in the same sentence somehow this was misconstrued into meaning "Coors Light". They could all learn a thing or two from Vern C.........his CH is the best looking one I've seen to date.
Here's some data I collated. I don't know how accurate it is though: 348: F: 27.7 lb ea R: 29.5 lb ea 355 Std wheel: F: 22.2 lb ea R: 23.0 lb ea Total Savings over the 348 wheel: 24.4 lb 360 starfish wheel: F: 19.0 lb ea R: 21.0 lb ea Total Savings over the 348 wheel: 34.4 lb The 355 wheel is perhaps the nicest looking but the 360 wheel is the lightest.
I am really questioning the posted weights of the 360 starfish wheel.. May be useful info to some....especially those whose car is on a diet, The only things that would effect your choice are,price,which style is preferred, and most impotantly when it come to the OEM 355CH wheels is AVAILIBILITY... 355CH Front: 19.5lbs Rear: 21lbs 360CH Front: 19.8lbs Rear: 22.9lbs Diameter and width of the 360/355 CH wheels are the same. I was unable to weigh on the same scales so there may be a minor +/- variation.....they are close enough to eliminate weight as a consideration in choosing one over the other FYI,The actual weight of a used 355CH wheel may vary a +/- as much as 1+lb due to numerous repainting.
Hmmmmmm so maybe the fronts of the 355 standard wheel is 7.5" ?? I am pretty sure the standard 355 rears are 10" wide ....... I guess I can just get a mirror an look at the numbers on the back of my wheel spokes ... ..... Yes they are magnesium !!! All the more reason why you need a set !! IMO they are the best single update that can be done to improve the looks of the 348 ... . As for the weights ........ according to Speedy Sam's post above ...... you will be saving about 6 pounds per corner of 'unsprung weight' ...... !!!!! They are what you need BJ !!!!!
Honey, I need 355 wheels. Gothspeed and the scary clown face both say so. No, the 348 wheels aren't broken, they are just too heavy. No, weight isn't the only reason, but the 355 wheels are sexier too. OK honey, the Iphone and Blueray DVD will suffice, but maybe I can have the wheels for Valentines Day. Well I WON'T be doing what we talked about.....I'd rather gain +.5lbs per wheel to cover up that Italian pottery finish. Atleast I know now there are some numbers under that glob of paint.
