ARE YOU GONNA KEEP YOUR F-car FOREVER?

As selfish as old King Tut, he is...this is the social policy that causes grave robbing.

I plan to take out a reverse mortgage on mine to take care of the cost of belt services in my declining years.

 

Or, you could leave it in your will to the children of a friend that only has one 328. By your generosity, both boys will have a Ferrari when you and I are both worm food.

I had always subscribed to the theory that I didn't another Ferrari, I wanted more Ferrari's. After funding the maintenance of the one I have, I may have changed that tune.

 

I think I'll have some of my ashes placed inside the frame tubes of the F40 and my race car

The rest I'll have made into a diamond to sit in some nice cleavage

I had my Dino for over 15 years. I thought I would keep it forever. But, after 15 years, it was due for a complete restoration and I just didn't have the time or energy to do that again. So, I found a great new owner who wanted to take the challenge.

I miss the Dino for sure but I'm not sorry I passed it along to someone else. I bought what I consider it's modern cousin, the F430 and that thrills me everyday BUT with Airbags, AC, seat belts that actually work, a cabin that doesn't feel like the heater is permanently on, a car alarm, a trunk that won't cook anything you put in it, seats that hold you in place when cornering, a lack of gas smell when sitting in traffic, a second gear that doesn't crunch until the gearbox warms up, oil dripping from the distributor, and earthshattering/groundbreaking performance.

I'm not complaining about my old Dino. I thought all of these issues gave it incredible charm --and you can't beat the Dino's engine sound. Call me "getting old" but I happen to like AC when I drive now instead of rolling out of the car in a ball of sweat everywhere I went on a summer's drive.

So, say what you will now but don't be surprised someday if a bright shiney new super car makes you wonder if driving a classic is really what you want to do anymore. It happened to me.

But I also wouldn't be surprised if someday I find the right Dino at the right time, price, and condition to get one again and keep it forever..... Hmmmm. You got me thinking now.

 

It will be one of the very last things I sell were I ever pushed to that point. Even if I did sell I'd get another 328 when I could.

 

A Ferrari is a gift, and nothing more. They are not ours, they are only lent to us to care for for a time, and then hopefully to pass on to the next enthusiast. I wont be buried in mine, and I personally think its selfish of others to do so. You really cant take it with you, why not let others enjoy her after you move on?

I might leave one in a trust, or will it away, I dont know yet. But as Steve pointed out, there are far more important things to concern ourselves than how long we will own a Ferrari. God warns that man does not know what tomorrow will bring, and to live today as though it may be your last. It very well may be.

I've been told many times that my car is junk and fit only for parting out. Why not give it a fitting resting spot? After all, it's "just a 328."

I plan on racking up the miles, rolling the odometer again, and adding onto the stable.

The TR stays, but the others might rotate through. Unfortunately I have exhuasted my available space and wifes endurance. While the Aston is fun to drive us to dinner, and the Lambo is fast, functional, and ergo, the TR is just perfect for feeling the way I felt when I was young.

I did not know you "wrong-handed" drivers shifted with a "correct handed" shifter as I see in your pics. For some reason I thought that shifters were put together backward to accomodate you guys. Are all car makes this (correct) way?

I have to drop the engine for the major/cam belt service. I will then REALLY clean up that engine bay in it at the same time. I like things to be perfect, so that will sort that.

I also will re-trim the interior also. Well, only drivers side seat bolster is worn, but I will replace carpets/trim doors/seats etc.....

But that is last on the list. I still have to get around to dropping the engine. I couldnt be bothered at the moment!

No, ALL the shifters in Ferraris, Mercs, Lambo's, Porsches etc.....stay the same as intended for LHD Countries.

Forever is too long to think about. I will keep my 348 for the next few years for sure unless something drastic forces me to sell it.

 

There's another thread here on F-Chat about someone who's trying to sell his two-valve injected 308 for 40,000. The consensus is that he's asking too much.

Well, I MIGHT sell my 82 308 GTBi for 75,000. Maybe.

If there are no takers, then I reckon I'll keep on enjoying it.

I always think Im gonna keep my cars forever......but when I see the new model I always fold

 

I'll keep my 360 for a long, long time. I get more emotionally attached to my cars than I do to most people, so I tend to own my cars for a long time and take good care of them. New cars take such a big depreciation hit in the first few years that I'd just rather own a car for 10-12 years or longer.

 

true sport car is my life.

so if i have it & loved it i think i'm not going to sell it.... at least through a lot of consideration
