It's in the rules: Team orders aren't allowed.

I know it's in the rules and what a stupid rule it is; however, whether you're Ferrari, McLaren or FI, teams will give orders to benefit themselves and unless you got one stubborn driver (happened many times in the past), they will listen.

Any replay of Hamilton's epic pass on Heikki that involved late braking, and fighting wheel to wheel at Germany?

For all of those people complaining, Massa did have 17 other races to maximise his points. I wanted Massa to win, and I was heart broken when Hamilton passed Glock, but that's racing.

It's a team sport, so this rule shouldn't exist but the Fia will never enforce it literally
unless it is blatant BS like in MS days. It's not there to prevent the team working as a team,
but to keep it acceptable to the fans.

Anyway, the Fia is the biggest offender of team orders.

Oh please. Toyota rolled the dice with dry tires when everyone else came in for wets. That gave them a 25 sec jump at the expense of lap times.

Glock didn't do so badly -- he wound up in sixth .... which is where he started when the rains came. So Glock was unable to hold the *temporary* gain from skipping the pit stop, but he didn't lose anything either.

Blame the race track for being a half lap too long. ;) Blame the mountains for not holding off the rain for 30 seconds. Blame the rod manufacturer for the part that gave out three laps early in Hungary. Or the light system in Singapore.

Massa said it himself -- "that's racing".

What I noticed from the replay is that *Hamilton* seemed to have given up -- Vettel was walking away, a couple of corners before everyone caught up to a struggling Glock. Maybe the team told Lewis that Glock was dead slow, but maybe he just gave up when it was clear he wasn't going to get around Vettel.

Heck of a performance by Vettel. Pity he'll be stuck in a Red Bull next year.

What I find weird is that Toyota demolished Honda in F1 ..... and yet there are no performance cars at all in Toyota's product line this year. MR2 - gone. Celica - gone. The "sportiest" thing in their lineup is an oversized Camry that looks like a melted boulder.

For the "Toyota" race of geezers (which "guest driver" Glock won, btw), they had to resort to using Scions.

So what is Toyota getting from their investment in F1? Sales of slug buckets to soccer moms?

So you hate it when drivers don't give it their all, 100% all the time to fight for wins, and it ends up benefitting another team.

    Ok.

So are we calling for an investigation into Alonso for not passing Massa? He was going quicker, caught up to within a couple seconds, then let off and was 15+ seconds back only a few laps later. Clearly he let off, and clearly there needs to be an investigation, and the win stripped from Massa, right?

    Right??????

...all you armchair 'racers' who seem to have determined that Glock gave Lewis the race are a pretty sad bunch. Perhaps you should consider that 'poetic justice' has been done.....remember Spa...? Either way, Lewis and Massa show far more class than the anonymous posters on this thread....

I've replayed the Vettel and Hamilton pass on Glock numerous times and it appears that Glock simply pulled to the side to be passed. I didn't see any slipping or sliding that would suggest Glock lost enough grip to surrender 2 positions... In fact, Glock actually gave up 3 positions at that last corner and then managed to regain one position back even though he was "sliding" on dry tires? Sure, blame Ferrari for their mistakes throughout the season or mother nature today, but this Championship was Massa's if it weren't for Glock's move, which btw, looked awfully suspicious.

Remember guys, Kimi handed Massa the points in the last race................How easily people forget...

I actually hope he did slow on purpose. We all know if Massa was in Hamilton's position and Alonso was in Glocks, Alonso would have slowed.

Someone posted that MCL had a GPS reading of Glock and were instructing LH to relax and not race Vettel because
he was racing Glock and would get him before the finish. If MCL had access to this, wouldn't F know this also, ie. they wouldn't be celebrating?
Glock had 18sec on LH at the start of the last lap.

Anyway, from this interview it doesn't sound like LH knew what was really going on as MCL says.

"The team didn't say anything so I though I was shot," said Hamilton, who became Britain's ninth world champion and the first since Damon Hill in 1996.
"I didn't know where Glock was and Vettel was the guy to beat and I couldn't catch him, so at that point I was going to finish sixth. My heart was in my mouth," said Hamilton
"When it started to drizzle, I didn't want to take any risks but at the final corner I got past Glock and I couldn't believe it.
"I thought 'do I have it, do I have it?' When they told me, I was ecstatic.
"It was absolutely fantastic, an amazing achievement on one of the most troubled days.
"It was such a hard race and I'm ecstatic, very emotional, very thankful for my team and my family and everyone who has supported me.
"I have done enough and we made it. I can forget everything else.
"I need to rest because my heart is on edge. I want to shout out to all my supporters at home - I love them all."

Glock insisted he had not handed the title to Lewis and explained how his decision not to change tyres as the rain began to fall ultimately cost him fifth place.
"It was a hard race and I tried my best, drove my race, drove for Toyota and tried to get some points," the German told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"Six laps from the end I asked about the tyre situation and about the weather conditions, and I said every time I'll stay out, 'one more lap, one more lap' and at the end I stayed out for the whole race.
"That last lap just cost us the chance to be in the top five, and in the end (decided) the world championship."

this Glock bashings getting a bit boring now...people blaming the loss of a WDC for Massa on the fact that he couldnt control the car on dry tyres in the wet despite all the f-ups of ferrari pit crew during the year need some kind of therapy!

that "replay" made me laugh tho!

I also replayed that moment over and over and over until I came away with this very same observation and opinion. Very suspicious indeed. After all, in the pre-race interview with Bernie, he called Hamilton the champion. We certainly couldn't disappoint Bernie, now could we?

Agreed Ferrari should have been in a better position at the season's end, but that win by Hammy will go down in my book as truly suspicious and not an outright victory for a talented driver - too bad, I would have liked to see him clearly the champ. Massa drove the snot out of his car in a very difficult race.

Give it up and move on already. Hamilton *IS* "clearly the champ".

As I have said before, your beef is not that he passed Glock, but rather than he wasn't intentionally blocked and held up by Glock pulling a total dick move to impede him.

When your definition of "suspicious" is that another driver on another team on dry tires on a wet track didn't swerve back and forth across the track to intentionally block the guy who was leading the WDC race, then something is seriously flawed in your reasoning. There is some good analysis of this on the other threads - if you choose to have an open mind and consider facts, of course.

I guess you just can't talk sense into some people. This is a deluded view of the real situation. Your passion in support of Ferrari is commendable, but this post and many others from various others unfortunately hints at hooligan fanaticism. I am a Ferrari fan through and through, but I think, just like Massa did, it's time we were gracious in admitting defeat and start looking forward to 2009.

    Here's the bottom line:

Not winning a race can be the fault of someone else.

Not winning a championship falls at your own team's feet.

...you´ve got that absolutely right...Massa will be champion if not for that silly gimmick of lights that in the end was NEVER USED AGAIN..."human scale speed" of he lollipop is way more effective.

...MISTAKE of the YEAR goes to...THE PIT LIGHT SYSTEM BY FERRARI that hose attached and Massa WAITING for the team to remove it was just...embarrasing

Ferrari Won, but was the DUMBEST team of all, although I rather have Ferrari as constructors champ given the runner up is the "cleaner than clean clan"
