So it goes like this: Had my 355 professionally clay bared, waxed etc etc I get the car back last Friday and it looks absolutely stunning My wife call me today at work and says the dog knocked her bike over and put a small dent in the door. Well I get home and the dent is about the size of a quarter and pretty deep. I call Dent Wizard nd tell them I have a dent in my 355 and one in my wifes BMW and can they do both..........sure no problem. The DW guy fixes my wifes car first an it looks perfect. He starts on the Fcar dent........ Using a dent puller apparatus with a bullet shaped tool and some I assume adhesive he starts pulling the dent out........... Finally he shows it to me and it also looks perfect...........hes says one more pull and a little tapping and it will be perfect. Well as he was applying the resin/glue I had a premonition of the paint pulling away. Sure as **** I now have a perfectly round nickel size piece of paint missing from my drivers side door. I am totally gutted..........not to mention the DW guy didnt even apologize nor did he offer any compensation ............ What gives with the level of service or lack thereof...........?? He was even recommended by the local exotics shop.
Why should he apologize ? The dent is gone right ? Just kidding. Sorry to hear about what happened. Is there a release you sign that would prevent you from collecting for the new damage ?
Sorry to hear my friend. Never heard of it being done from the front. I have a guy that has done my cars for the last 7 years or so. He always works from behind the panel. Always perfect.
yeah he said he should do it from behind but thought he could get it from the front. Cutting corners I guess..... Anyway is it a big deal to have it painted? Will the complete door need sprayed or will they fill and blend the spot?
Door plus some. He owes a paint job in my book. Paintless dent repair always involves pushing from the inside out and tapping the outside to reshrink the stretch. 355 doors are a cake walk to do most any dent in that manner.
I dont care about the $ side of it..........i just want it fixed and fixed correctly........ He did a great job on my wifes car..........I aint gonna lose sleep over a few bucks, lifes toooo short. Im gonna chalk this up to a lesson well learned after I throw the bike away and feed the dog chicken bones
WOW, sorry to hear...now that is a true nightmare! ok keep it in perspective...it's nowhere near as bad as breaking a timing belt though.
Sorry to hear about the problems with the dent removal. I suspect that a good quality body shop can fill the affected area, spot paint it (blending it in), and clear coat the door. My guess is that it can be done for $400-$600.
door was probably painted before which is why the paint came off soo easily, easy fix with the right paint shop they may be able just to spot the area on the door, **** happens just had a garage door take a chunk of paint out of one of my cars had it fixed and front spoiler resprayed as well to fix a few chips and scrape on a low hit on a dip no big its only paint my car looks perfect now
So sorry to hear that. I'm very lucky that my specialist has excellent spray painting and panel beater contacts. But mind you, these guys are not cheap. Onno
Im a dent tech in Australia. We use the glue/slide hammer on small dents usually in areas not accessible from behind. Sound like this DW tech was being slack. Tis true that the glue should only be used on factory paint, however I've found that any car over 5 yrs old can have the paint come off. Especially Subaru's ?! If I pulled paint off some guys 355 i'd be expecting to pay for it. So should he. I hope he didnt charge you for the BMW. . . Dent guys who break glass (usually laminated glass in Benz's) have to pay for that ($1000+ here!) I wouldn't accept just the area being repainted. You'll need the door plus a blend to make it look as close to factory.
Uhhhh.....huuuuuuuuu......he said he should do it from behind........uhhhhhh....huuuuuuuu Anyway...that really sucks. I had a dent fixed on my old Porsche once, the guy did it from behind. It was on a body line, and it came out perfect. I thought that was the best way to do it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Class act we should all learn from. I just did, thank you. What do I do with my wifes Boxers that took to parting out Skunks now?
I had a paintless dent guy come get rid of the problems on the 348 when I first got it. There were two dings that he could not get to because of some tube type reinforcing on the inside of the door skin. Those two dings are still there. The door reinforcement could be the reason he attempted the repair from the outside. That said, I would think that they would do something to fix the paint that they damaged. Empathy to you! BT
Bill he did mention something about the door reinforcement being in the way. I wasnt paying much attention..........I was putting on my new hood struts and drinking a few Amstel lites I guess the question is should I have the nose sprayed at the same time to get out a few stone chips...........?
I feel your pain.... That is exactly my luck also.... Throw some money at it, make it go away & live life stress free..... Longer its not repaired longer it will p*ss you off.... Good Luck! Chris
Bang on Chris...... NJB Ferrari Guys are coming to pick it up next week. Gonna have the front clip re-sprayed also to remove a few stone chips while its in for paint.
