I guess the first thing I should ask is: "Will any of these help the sound without changing the Exhaust?" (I'm vain, sorry)... I basically want more performance and more volume...I know if I take the cats out of the equation, I'll be incurring labour every time I go for an emissions test but hey!!! So, is it a big job to fit the cats and swap them back???

Pros, cons, experience???? Any advice is welcome...Also. I forget to mention, when I bought my 348, the Dealer told me I had a non-stock exhaust. Now being a bit wet behind the ears I believed him. The truth being, I wouldn't have known what I was looking at anyway. Now, I've had a look at the exhaust system and can't see any branding anywhere, so If I posted a couple of photos up here (exhaust fitted), will anyone be able to ID it????

    Regards

    Mark

Post up pictures .. I'm sure someone will be able to ID it.

There are tons of threads about replacement cats and de-cat or test pipes. It would make sense to run a search to find out more ...

    Cat improvement route:
Vendors: Hyperflow, Fabspeed, Gothspeed, Magnaflow cats
+ Better exhaust flow characteristics (very close to test pipes)
    + Sounds louder
+ Hyperflow and Gothspeed are the best IMO. Gothspeed cats have greater diameters to improve flow. Both are contructed very well.
+ Save a few pounds in weight
    - Expensive

    De-cat/Test pipes/Cat replacement pipes
Vendors: Hyperflow, X-OST, Your neighborhood exhaust shop
    + Light weight
+ Engine bay is a lot cooler (cats generate most of the heat
    - Fuel smell on start-up and idle
    - Pain of swapping out with cats for the emissions test. I think some guys have passed the test without cats as well somehow. :)

I removed the factory cats from my 355 a few months ago, I fitted the replacement Tubi pipes (concerto?) the difference in sound is dramatic, my car was not quiet to begin with but the change from removing the cats was much more than expected.
It took me a few drives to get used to the new sound, it sounds fantastic and really is F1 like, but very loud. I would recommend you remove the cats and see what you think, it won't cost much to have a couple of pipes made up and fitting them is easy, if you don't like it you can go back to stock or fit the gothspeed's/hyperflows.....

Do the test pipes trigger the CEL on the 5.2 version?
