I've tried the search engine but wasn't too successful finding what I'm looking for.

    Two questions:

    1) Where is the best place to shop (So Cal, LA area) for enclosed car trailers, new or used? Are certain brands better than others? Any input/advice?
    2) U-Haul rents open car trailers, does anyone know of a place that would rent an enclosed car trailer for this weekend?

    Thanks for your help guys,

    C-

Start on craigs list lots of good deals on there before you buy one talk to a couple of owners at the track who use them and find out what good and bad - Haulmark is one palce to start but again its all depending on your budget and what to spend on there !

as for a u-hual - I doubt you have ever trailerd a car if you bring that one up - there is no way the f430 will clear the bottom - Uhaul trailers are very heavy - once you get a f430 on there after jacking up the trailer in certain ways - once you get the car on the trailer how are you going to get out of the car ? trailer wheele prohibit you from fully opening the car door.

and to top it off you will need to figure out how to prevent the paint from from getting dammaged if you use an open trailer.

    good luck with the search.

Thanks for the advice Bob. I was merely referring to U-Haul as an example of a rental place for a car trailer; if you read my post carefully, I was asking where I would be able to rent an enclosed trailer. But you're right in the fact that I've never hauled my 430, I usually drive it regardless of the distance but in this case I will have to haul it as I can't fit my entire family in it.

    Thanks again!

It would have to be an enclosed flat bed.

How about using a flatbed and plastic shrink wrap on the car, like the kind they use on boats when being transported. Or is it privacy you are looking for?

They like to ask what's wrong with the car and refuse service. AAA is not really a transport company.;)

You guys are funny and pretty creative!

From my research so far, you can't rent an enclosed trailer unless you rent it from a private individual.

Regarding buying one, I would love to hear suggestions as to the best brand and place where a new or used one could be bought.

if you have to buy a trailer check out carson trailers.they have decent enclosed units and you probably can get a good deal factory direct...or try posting a "wanted enclosed race car trailer for rent" on craigs list...ill bet youll get a call....

I would give Garrett custom trailers a call
    http://www.garrettcustomtrailers.com/
I have got my last couple of trailers from him.
The Haulmark edge trailer works real well for hauling a car

Was going to suggest that too. Just to clarify to others, Carson Trailers are sold at local distributors nation wide. (I have a Carson that I bought in Ventura.) But their headquarters is actually in Carson. So, if you don't mind driving to Carson, you could save some money. Plus while you're in Carson, you can stop in and say hi to Dave at Premier.:D

I have been looking into this myself... It is very difficult to find rentals within los angeles, at least near the western portion of LA. There is a place down in Anaheim that sells & rents open and enclosed trailers.. http://www.bigtexwest.com/door/.

I have not used them, only found them while searching the internet for local companies.
I can tell you that the logistics seem to be quite a burden, at least for me....
Driving to the yard (across the county) to pick up the trailer, driving home, loading the car, driving to the track, driving home to unload the car, driving to the rental yard (across the county) to drop off the trailer and then returning home seems like a drag.

Then on the other hand, you buy a trailer........

and look at the thing in your driveway 7 days a week.

I bought my car trailer and a couple enclosed trailers for work projects from "Aztex Trailers" in Fontana.

Definitely not "F1" quality but just could not beat the price. I bought a 23' for my car 'cause I wanted room to haul my golf cart and "stuff" to the track ... think it was $6k and it's a triple axle which I like. Also makes for an extra indoor parking space for a car you don't use much ... that shouldn't be the case with 'ya 430 but for my P track car it's been that way :(.

    Cheers

I've seen guys on the PCASDR (Porsche Club San Diego Region) forum that rent their enclosed trailers to people.

yeah that's more than adequate. 24 is a nice size because you won't overwhelm the towing vehicle (you generally want as long a wheelbase as you can get), and it's large enough that you'll have good maneuverability and plenty of space inside the car for the car + extras. You should be able to find a good used box for <5k, and another 2-3k to kit it out (generator, etc).
