I'd sign up for a Speed Euro type channel in about .0001 seconds. The Speed Channel has been clogged up with so much crap I hardly turn to it anymore except for F1.
So are you going to renew it for the 2009 F1 season and then cancel it or are you just going to keep it canceled?
The only time I watch Speed is for F1 and ALMS. The majority of the rest of the programing is absolute rubbish. Do they even bother showing FIA GT races as a winter season filler anymore? Thank goodness I record a lot of the F1 and ALMS races so I have some decent race footage to watch in the off season instead of repeats on Speed of the "Denture Dust 500 from Clemville Raceway"!! Yee ##*&%## haa. Gary
But that's why there won't be a Speed Euro. You're not the target audience for the ads Fox runs on all of their channels. That's why Fox converts every channel to the same kind of mindless drivel -- to attract the audiences who can be convinced that they really need a sledge-o-matic.
So how can you watch F1 in america if you don't get speed channel? Any other way except george's way?
I am also very discouraged with SPEED over the last few year's and feel lucky they still cover F1 considering all the other racing serie's they have dropped coverage of that I love. Man ESPN was the bomb back in the early '80's when I could watch F1, Group B rally, IMSA, CART etc etc all over one weekend, I never got any sleep between them and the bar !
Agree. I got so sick of pinks that I could not even turn the channel to speed. I sent speed an email begging them to curtail the flood of pink programs, it seemed like everytime I turned on speed, pinks was on. Occassionaly it's ok, but it got out of control and way to much. Although it does seem pinks has been curtailed, but the replacement programs are just as bad if not worse.
The original Speedvision was really fun. Airplanes, flight instruction, warbirds, wings, then there were boats, boat repair, sailing, motorcycles, and racing of every kind that didnt involve continuous contact and left turns. Speed went the other direction and fed into the redneck crowd. That and the overall intensity of commercials that seem to outrun the regular programming, and the plethora of informercials. Its a stupid TV channel and I refuse to support it. But I couldnt unsubscribe as it was part of all the packages, so I told them to shut off all the programming. And these days with all the BS in F1, I aint missin a damn thing.
So, this is kind of a funny topic for a Ferrari forum... I don't like Pinks either, but is it really that much money to keep Speed for F1, ALMS, Grand Am, Victory by Design or the occasional midnight showing of a DTM race? How much are you guys paying to get Speed Channel? I pay ~$60 a month for 70+ channel HD digital cable with all the channels I need... Speed, Discovery, Nat Geo and History. Just curious if I should send a thank you card to my cable company.
Man I have not seen a DTM race on SPEED for over a year! Their scheduling via their 'on tv guide' is crap because I remembering missing something related to F1 and took 20min's to go through the guide over a whole 24hr period and it was not listed. Then the next day I checked the channel and missed the whole program except for the last 5-10min's, I was PO'd bigtime.
It has nothing to do with money or being able to afford it, it has everything to do with making a point. If everyone complained and stopped subscribing, they would give people what they want. Did everyone forget that its the American way to protest by boycott? Cant ya'll go without your Godforsaken TV for a week or two? When cable TV first came out, the entire premise was commercial free programming, free because the customer (thats you) are paying for the programming instead of the advertiser. And it was cheap. In fact many localities made damn sure that cable companies followed very clear rules. When Ted Turner put up his own satelites and started selling his digitalised anolog programming, he crammed it full of commercial programming. He gets it from both sides. And the rest is history. I dont mind one or two quick commercials, but 10 or 15 in a row irritate me so bad I usually turn off the TV. But Speed is a whole different deal. I dont mind watching a stock car race once in a while, but I like variety. Seeing a bunch of hillbillies sitting around chewing tobacco talking about race trucks (a real oxymoron if there ever was) all hours of the day and night, well, F1 shouldnt even be on that stupid channel. At least Speedvision would replay the race at a later time so you could watch it at a decent hour. Speed no longer cares if you see it or not, so why they want the contract is beyond me. Maybe the advertisers are so brainwashed they dont know nobody is watching? Hey Coca Cola, I aint watching. But then they have to fill it up to about 40% commercials, and all informercial stuff at night. I guess I would rather rearrange my garage. Ya'll put yer money where your TV is and the programming will change.
No s**t.....I miss the SPEED channel as well "wings" (now military channel)..... I am soooooo sick of Nascar...I think one day the population will evolve, stop dragging their knuckles and grow up a little....Until then we have to deal with "low life".
DANG.....that post was hardcore. Does that mean you scraped the #3 with the wings and halo off the back window of the berlinetta?
On the flip side, my provider just added Speed in HD on this past Thursday for no extra cost. The fact that they were 5 days late for this season pisses me off, but I am looking forward to F1 in HD with surround sound next year. Picture is great so far.
I caught some stupid program on Speed last night. I think it was "Super Cars Exposed". It COULD have been kind of fun, they were running some Porsches, and Lambos, and Vettes, and a Ford GT, and a hot Viper on a makeshift course at a military base. But they filmed it at night, and you honestly could not see anything at all except the lights! What a concept - one set of lights racing another set of lights!
Going off-topic for a second, I had my TV tuned to the NASCAR race a while ago (on ABC), and they showed a commercial for Nationwide Insurance featuring Kevin Harvick in Corvette doing donuts in a residential cul-de-sac while a family stood at the curb watching. To me, that is just unbelievably stupid and irresponsible. AN INSURANCE COMPANY! Glamorizing idiotic behavior! What were they thinking???
Guys, I agree with you...I enjoy watching F1 and the Le Mans series. But realistically, besides us on this site, and another Speedster site that I belong to, there are about 13 total people in the US that enjoy F1. It's bull**** that the masses in love watching hillbilly bumper cars rolling around making a left hand turn, but it is what it is...
