Does anyone have any history or information on testarossa serial #54283. Its a euro car and I have owned it for 21 years. red exterior, black interior. I would appreciate any information. Thanks DG

Thought I would visit this thread again to check in on the flying mirrors. Early in the thread there was a discussion concering 63465. I offer that there is an error, which I pointed out some time ago and is skewing your number count up by one.

The car that I owned for 18 years and recently sold to Alan Lebis is 63465. There is no 63456.

I suggest that you change 63456 to "63465 1986 Black/Tan 33000 miles Stock Alan Lebis Calgery, Alberta, Canada" and eliminate "63465 1986 North America".

Cool, thanks! Can you tell us a little bit about it? How many miles, how long you've owned it, date of production, stuff like that.

 

1985 single mirror testarossa #54283. I have owned this car since 1986, has 18000 kilometers on it. Red with black interior, engine #ooo28. I am trying to find any info on it. thanks.

What I know of the car history (as it was told to me):

The car was originally purchased by the great (infamous) baseball player Pete Rose. I was told that he wanted to have the first one. He let his car go to Car and Driver for their road test on the cover of the September 1985 issue. As the article says "Speed for a price, or almost red for a Rose, or besball been bery, bery good to him." He later got this car.

In the meantime, my friend Ken had purchased a Lamborghini, I think it was at Meadowlands Imports in Jersey City. However, he really didn’t fit in it. So the dealer said that they would give him another one with a different seat set up. Many months later, he finally got the call that the Lambo was in, and it was gorgeous. The Lambo was pearl white with the big wing. Pete Rose was having the Testarossa serviced at the same time and fell in love with it.

They traded cars (and I guess some money).

Ken had it ever since and took good care of it. But he wanted something that was easier to get in and out of, as his back was bothering him.

On my 45th (2006) birthday my wife told me that I should go buy a new car. My daily driver was a Lexus with well over 150,000 miles on it and was nearing the end of its life. She was thinking I should replace the Lexus. I puttered around the house, and around in the evening called Ken.

Well, it followed me home, my kids approved, so we kept it.

I bought the car in Milwaukee and am the 3rd owner of record. Origionally sold by Ferrari of Houston and purchased by a Dr. in abilene Tx.

I'm the 3rd owner and reside in the Atlanta area. @ 22,000 miles

These are great truly great cars. While it may no longer be one of the fastest cars on the street it will always be one of the most striking. I smile daily as I walk past the car to my daily driver, but I smile a lot harder on the weekend when I put the folding key in the ignition of the weekend car.

FWIW, I owned / sold Serial No. 57077 ~ 1985 EURO, Red / Tan, 49k miles ~ back in 2003-2005. It was purchased by a fellow F-Chatter (don't know who).

 

1985 RED/TAN sold here by a local dealership(regular cars) it showed up a few weeks ago and a few of my friends who know of my "addiction" to the ferrari's called me to tell me what they saw at the Moses dealership. It had a window sticker of 59,999 but then was advertised as "to be auctioned".

it was actually auctioned by the dealership as part of thier grand opening at that location and there was only a small story in the metro section for that area.

a local dentist won the auction which had only two(2)bids, the first at $29,500 and the second at $30,000(no matter what, it seems as if that was a deal!!)

it was listed as having 12,000 miles on it and the story told of the "400.00" tires that it would eat up regularly.
bystanders told the reporter that it would need its 30,000 mile "engine out" service soon.

i wish i could have gotten there and recorded the serial number for you guys, maybe the new owner will come on here and put it on the list.

i havent seen it on the road yet.........hopefully soon

Can you remove this car from the list...? I ask because 67614 is not a valid Ferrari serial number - it's too low to end in an even number.

 

Hi all,

ZFFTA17B000059187 is missing in the list. It was ordered/invoiced new on 15th March, 1985 from AUTO BECKER GmbH & Co. KG, Suitbertusstrasse 150, 4000 Duesseldorf/Germany by Lux GbR, from 4650 Gelsenkirchen/Germany (AUTO BECKER customer no. 00413) in Rosso Corsa with all black interior. The price was DM 213.999,99 but AUTO BECKER granted a discount to his good customer of DM 8.560,00. The delivery was scheduled for the end of August 1985.

Shortly after his order AUTO BECKER asked Lux if he would agree and lend his car before delivery to him as the show car on Ferrari's stand at the 1985 IAA Frankfurt show which was organised by AUTO BECKER. He agreed on condition that the car will be painted in silver instead of rosso corsa in reminiscence to the German racing colors.

On 4th September, 1985 the tax clearance certificate was issued for 59187 by the main customs office in Duesseldorf/Germany (no. F1-5064). Ferrari had followed the color wish of Lux and so Silver/black Ferrari testarossa 59187 was displayed at the IAA 1985 which took place from 12.-22. September 1985. There is a special plate mounted in the engine bay in honor of Lux's generosity to lend his car.

After the show AUTO BECKER tried to drive 59187 from the stand but the gap between the stand and ground floor was too high for 59187 and so the AUTO BECKER staff built a ramp with... remaining testarossa brochures. I have pictures of that memorable drive.

After the IAA Lux took delivery on 26th September, 1985 26.09.1985, the warranty card no. 29406-19978 was issued for Johann Juergen Lux, Gelsenkirchen/Germany and on 27th Sepptember, 1985 the German certificate of registration (Kraftfahrzeugbrief) no. 88367735 was issued on license plates “GE-TR 8” and type aproval issued no. 271/104883.

I was able to buy 59187 from Juergen Lux on 12th April, 2008. Lux kept 59187 all the years in his garage next to his 512 BB and other interesting cars. He drove 59187 regularly until 1994 and the car was serviced through the years by AUTO BECKER, Officine W. Lackmann and Modena Motorsport. I have all service invoices etc.

And yes there is a special story behind the decision to buy 59187. When I was 10 years old my father promised me to visit the IAA Frankfurt show. It was my first IAA then. There I saw and photographed a silver/black Ferrari testarossa and was totally smitten. I was searching now for years for that special car of my childhood dreams but I didn't even know its s/n until I read an article about Lux and his cars in "Via Abetone", the Ferrari Club Deutschland magazine.

The car is completely original except for a smaller Momo stearing wheel (but the original wheel came with the car and will be mounted again). It will have the "mother of all services" over the winter including timing belt change, new TRX tires etc. and it will then be registered with the already prebooked licence plate "S-F V12".
