Jenson Button is hoping for "a bit more" than podiums when he lines up on the 2009 grid with Honda.

The Briton, as well as his teammate Rubens Barrichello, has endured two dramatically uncompetitive seasons with the team, and in 2008 he was the lowest-placed of all the manufacturer-backed drivers.

Honda, however, abandoned development of the RA108 very early this year to focus entirely on the 2009 car, and team boss Ross Brawn has publicly declared the likelihood of podiums next season.

"Ross has said we will get podiums and be at the same sort of level as BMW. But I'm hoping for a bit more," Button, 28, told The Sun, explaining that "challenging for wins" is his own goal for 2009.

"We need to be very positive and I can't wait to get out there and test the new car."

A new contract for Button has yet to be signed for 2009, but he indicated to the British newspaper that he will certainly stay with the Japanese squad.

    Go Button!

This could come back to bite you in the bum. ;)

Honda undoubtedly had a bad car this year but that doesn't mean they will have a bad one next year. With all the changes that have to be in place before next season all the teams are, to a certain extent, starting afresh and those that took an early decision to favour development of next year's car over continuing to work on this year's have a head start. I think Honda could do well next season.

ok, slightly fair enough [bum...gotta love the continent]

however, other drives, in poor vehicles, seem to have performed better over the entire year. I mean who else failed to get out of Q1 as much as JB?

I have always felt he was more about promoting his possibilities, than showing us he had it.

His only win was due to DNFs ... not a good record. Does any other team feel he is worth the price?

Maybe, but where is Williams now? I'll bet that the Honda is a far better car than the Williams next season.

We're talking about the 2009 season. Let's not forget that Honda stopped the development of the RA108 chassis early on so they could concentrate on the new rules chassis for 2009. And since you so graciously accepted my proposal, let's call it a friendly 100. Still in?

i think everyone is jumping the gun here. he's talking about 2009, and nothing in 2009 is gonna be based on the form the team had this season. Honda already mentioned earlier, they stop developments on the 2008 car, to focus for next year.

whats so great about Williams this season? they started brightly, and then they faded off. the way i look at it, there's a fair chance of Honda beating Williams next season.
