  1. My 23 month old son, knows exactly what the 348, and 550 are From time to time I would pick him up from daycare in the 348. When I put him in the seat he would have this **** eating grin on his face, and he screams "fadi Daddy" when he's in the car. He also asks to go fast and when we are at a stop light he yells "go go!!"
I got such a rise out of this, i picked him up for a couple days in a row....Then i showed up in an suv and he threw a temper tantrum and asked for the Ferrari. its been nearly 2 months since hes been in it, and he still asks me to go for a ride in it!! Just this AM I was watching Russo and Steele and there was a 512 BB on the screen, my son walked in the TV room and, freaked out in excitement when he saw the car..He screamed "fadi daddy!!!"
Now that is a kid who is hooked...Gotta be genetics at work

Nice! What model? I know you own a Boxster now, how many Porsches have you owned total? I love Porsche. I like the 928..reasonably affordable, but my dad wants me in something more modern. Of course I love Carrera's, Turbos etc ;). Dad wants me in a Honda of course for practical and obvious reasons.*sigh* I'm irrational...I want a toy...not a car to get me from A to B haha. The joys of being a silly teenager .

    Aww that's adorable.

I had a 944. Bought it when I was 16. But I'm a lot older than you, so that was (gasp) 20 years ago! Doesn't seem that long. I got a job just so I could buy the car. If my dad hadn't been a guy who was into working on cars and known a lot of guys with shops I would have been in serious trouble. It had a lot of issues. Still, I was really sad when I sold it. My Boxster is my second Porsche. I think my friend's dad still has his 928 he bought new in 1982 stored in a barn.

    cool thread.

I've thaught my little twin brothers well, they've just turned 3 but where utterly disappointed that they could come with my to F1 testing. They always want to play with the Ferrari toy cars and the 'wandaghini'. they've also got a few porsche's as toy cars which they like very much, luckely its 993 911 GT2's etc though (ie the good porsches:D).

I had a stripped out nissan 200sx a while ago (240sx for you guys in the states, but with a better engine, 1.8 turbo). When i say stripped out I mean stripped out...sound deadening and everything removed, 2x bucket seats and the previous owner even went as far as stripping some of the wireing...We had quite a long drive and they always wanted me to take them up and down for a bit (as they where so young, and child seats wouldnt go in the car, it didnt go further than that ofcourse). I strapped them in the racing harness and they where sitting there with a huge smile on their face 'go go go, start it!'...It had a stupid loud, turbo back straight through drain pipe exhaust on there so they where always waiting for that noise it produced. On I went to start it up and slowly drive up. As soon as i got on the tarmac bit i just floored it, wheels would spin up and just rev it to 8500K, correct the steering, shift to second and take it up to around 50. then i'd let of the throttle and they heard the 'pigeon' sound as the air wanting to go into the turbo got refused and stalled the turbo (Blow of valve removed, psht psht psht psht sound it would make...). often the car was already hot when i took them for up and down the drive so unburnt fuel would explode in the exhaust right underneath them.

When i returned again i would get out of the car and they would easily spent around half an hour climbing around in the car, pretending to drive...Just like the most of us did when we where younger in mommies or daddies car. When i finally got them out of the car they would run inside, to their own 'feet powered' little tikes cars and make the same noises my car made.

My question is, If a nissan does this to them, what on EARTH will a ferrari do to them?! They recently saw a testarossa when i was getting them out of the car. they where standing in the trunk of the car ( toyota landcruiser) and already started pointing and shouting 'ferrari, ferrari bas!'. The kind owner gave us a thumb up (to my surprise they gave him one back:D) and he revved a little as he drove passed...The next day they would pretend to be a ferrari again:D.

Lots of good stories here. My own daughter is about to turn five and has been a huge fan of my 308 ever since I got it (as opposed to my wife who hates it and wants it gone.) My daughter frequently tells my wife that she wants a car with lots of vroom like dad's and has decided she wants a pink ferrari with diamonds on it (rhinestones would work just as well, as long as it is sparkly).

    Joe:

My purchase of a Ferrari ( a Mondial much like yours) came about largely because of my older son. He was addicted to the Ferrari "Victory by Design" DVD, and after watching it for the 700th time, my wife went online to look for cars. That got me going, and lo and behold, the car of my dreams was 10-minutes away.

He will demand to go in the Ferrari, and wears THE shirt continually. The younger son isn't indoctrinated yet as far as I can tell, since he can't speak. I did give him a Hotwheels FXX, and the older one went nuts with jealousy. He already broke my 1/18th 550 barchetta...

I strongly suspect they will like cars and know Ferrari's well. James (the older) knows Porsches well also, since a good friend as a 930 motored 911SC.

Not to be sexist, but good job with a girl. I know there is a lot of "pretty princess" / "pretty pony' pressure on them--and you. Just drag them into turning a wrench... Note that we're removing a plug here, I used my inch/pound wrench to put them back. My friend with the 911 has two daughters, as does my friend with a Lotus Esprit. All future gearheads.

    Peter,
What a great photo. I hope that my daughter and I continue to share the same passion, but most importantly, I hope that as she gets older we enjoy the same relationship that you and your children clearly do.

Every girl I've met who's into cars is like that because her dad was a car guy, or fixed cars for a living, or something like that. :) Keep it up :D

Was it a s13? but ya as awful turbo flutter is it just sounds so good, specially with a couple of the overrun pops.

PS: sorry for the random off topic posts. but thats a really good job to you guys. I wish my dad was into cars.

My younger boy is actually 4, but one of his firts words was "Ferradi". One of his favourite freetime when we was 2, was to be standing in front of our modest model collection and guess wich model it was. we can spend something like an hour around them...
Stangely his favourite was always "Ferrari THE Daytona".
Well, but know he admires Lambo's most but he keeps saying "when I grow up, I'll have a Giallo Lambo and father gets his Dino"....
Other funniest part of the story is when he was just one year, I always gave my Ferrari magazines (Forza, Cavallino, etc) and books for him to see and he never damage any....

I just made the mistake of letting my 15yo daughter take a joy ride at pocono as a passenger in my freinds GT3 ( sorry no ferrari content ) red class. She is a thrill seeker, goes on all of the wacky roller coaster rides. Gets out of the GT3 after doing 167 on the back straight like " that was it !!" . Wanted to know how to go faster !.

I get mine to help wherever possible. But you have to be careful, because once I put my 6 year old on task, she will not let you help until it is done.

Not only does Kamryn love Ferrari's, she likes tools too. Last Sunday we spent an hour at the Murdocs Store looking at all their tools. She thinks cordless rules.
