Thank you Francois: that is AM120132 which I drove Sunday morning before the owner parked it there at the Epoqu'auto show! I took plenty of photos but film so ready in a few days but we appreciate this preview!

I'm having trouble finding a place in New York that can balance the tires. Everyone tells me that the holes are too small on the wheels and that they therefore need to be balanced on the car...Any ideas?

    Hi Jordan:

Ask MIE or Ed Waterman at Motorcar Gallery or Steve Claasen at Tropical Sports cars in Fort Lauderdale. What you say rings a bell but I never had to do it on my car. There has to be a shop in the New York New England area who has a wheel balancing machine that is adaptable enough.

Good luck and let us know what you find out please!

    best regards,

    Marc

Hah yes Hathaway of SM world (famous garage specializing in the Maintenance of Citroen SM in the Los Angeles area which made a salt lake record special SM)...he certainly should have been tempted and able to take care of it himself...good idea Joe: I haven't had my second cup of cofee so took me a moment to wake up here:) will email him and ask.
I know he worked on 1054 quite a few years ago.

Really? Well I suggest you measure the "holes" accurately and give Eurotire on Route 46 in Fairfield, NJ a call. Ask them before you come all the way over there.
They aren't cheap but they are very good. The more work you have them do the more reasonable the prices become too.
Balancing 15" tires shouldn't be expensive anyway.

But here must be someone closer who's also very good. Anyway, it's one idea.

Yes this is a problem with the starburst wheels. On most modern balancing machines the shaft is too thick to fit through the small hole of the starburst wheels because of the mounting of the large cover nut. Tim Jessilonis (The National Tech Rep for Maserati North America when the Khamsin was a new car) did mine on my Ghibli and my Khamsin. He is in Glen Burnie, MD. In NJ try Classic Coach. I also have the same problem with my Iso Rivolta which also has a cover over the lug nuts.

Here are some photos of AM120132: as mentioned had to chance to examine and drive it near the Epoqu'Auto show in Lyon, France a week ago. Very nice car, not concours as per the Pebble Beach perfect paint never drive it syndrome, some minor cosmetic flaws inside and out but a strong solid car, with very little needed to make it into a really good one. Unfortunately my drive was in the rain and in an urban setting so, even though it was my drive of a Euro Khamsin I did not have a chance to conclude anything: you do feel that it is a bit longer legged, the diff ratio being more geared for top speed than torque and yes the engine feels more free without the US strangling exhausts.

History: sold new in Germany, or France in 1976 (conflicting recors, will clarify), was originally a shade of gold, not sure of oro Longchamps or Oro Kelso, then repainted red by a man in western france who consigned it to well known Marseille dealer Jean Guikas. This was at least 5 years ago, before Khamsin prices moved: the price then was very high so no sale, then, after all that time it was put up for auction in June by Artcurial (Poulain) in St Cloud, near Paris (and half a mile from where Maserati France was back then) and sold in the &0KEuro range to a man in the Grenoble area.

Thanks to M.B. for his time and help!

    Best regards,

    Marc

Actually the German words visible in the tin plate upper right of the chassis number plate would seem to give away that it was sold there new...

I meant to write that it was my FIRST drive of a Euro Khamsin and that the price in the auction was in the 60K Euro range: not sure what a &0K price is!:) Can you tell I had my family here for an endless lunch? Time to go rest!

    best regards,

The exact car i posted 2 pictures last week, that's funny.
By the way, does the owner from Grenoble also own a grey Ferrari 365GT 2+2?
If yes, he might be someone i met last year at "Pur sang & Ferrari" in Annecy.
I remember him telling me that he much prefered maseratis of this generation rather than his 365.
    That was interesting.

    Bonjour!

Well he used to own a 365GT4 2+2 (ie the first car with the 400 body but with a 365GTC4 sidedraft engine) and sold it to a friend we had lunch with last Sunday at the show where you saw this Khamsin.

    best regards,

Could anyone suggest a radio for a '74? Right now there's only some late 80's thing in there. (More for looks - the real music comes from the exhaust :D )

Hello: first of all I assume and hope that you and your belongings are allright i.e. not affected by the fires?

Regarding a radio the Blaupunkt Berlin giraffe thing was fitted to Khamsins back then as a costly option. My car had one but as you mention the real music is from the exhaust: I think I had that radio on once.

Gary Bobileff might be able to find you one or just ebay and Google at nauseam. Here is the onyl photo of my car showing it: sorry not very good: these are February 1992 photos: all 4 scanned together but you can see it in one shot. It even had a microphone which as quite the thing back then to dictate your letters to your secretary as you swept along the autostrada at 240kph...

    best regards,

    Marc

Once again Marc, you leave no questions open! This forum wouldn't be half as good without you! Thank you - I'll try and find one for my uncle. (It will be a christmas present - every year I give him a little something related to the cars. Last year I gave him the manuals for the Khamsin and the Ghibli SS)

On the side - it's only 5 more weeks until I see the Khamsin's new paintjob in the original blue it came form the factory with. (It had been repainted black in '76 i think)
I can't wait to get some HD footage of the Khamsin and the Ghibli SS driven the way the are supposed to be. (I'm still figuring out the separate audio recording for the perfect sound experience)

I'm alright - thank you for asking. A lot of other people here in Santa Barbara were not so fortunate. Over 200 structures were burnt, most of them were residences.
I was far enough away, though if the wind had stayed as strong as it was the first day, I most likely would have been affected too. I was able to see the fire from the parking lot - I doubt it was more than 1km away. I saw some flames up to 80-100ft high - it was breath-taking. I feel very sorry for the people that lost their homes in this fire.

Glad to help and that you are ok. Read about the 100ft flames: hell in progress...poor people: I might be repeating myself but I considered moving to Santa Barbara in 1989...before I found myself in San Francisco during the Loma Prieta earthquake October 17 that year: no more "Quaky shaky state" for me except for visits! In Florida you knew where the Hurricanes came at least.

I would think there are other cheaper period correct radios that would work: looking at period brochures and magazine articles might help identify a correct radio type which you could then hunt.

Tools could be overpriced too: such is the "charm" of these things:)

Re the video: I could come up with countless ideas for the shoot, not all of them nonsensical (I hope!).

The coolest thing would be to do it with to Khamsins, moving one filming the other, alternatively from behind and from in front: a lot can be done with one small camera and some creativity...

    best regards,

    Marc

Just spotted this listing. It is 1977 Khamsin located in Connecticut. What is funny is that it is listed as a 1975, but was clearly manufactured in '77. Also, the add lists it as a 12 cylinder! (obviously another mistake). It is a US model, LHD, with euro-bumper conversion. From the ad, it seems like the dealer has little to no real history on the car.

Hello Magnus: I have had a busy week with no time and was way this week end: I have now emptied my MKR mailbox so you are more than welcome to send anything: it will not bounce back: Thank you for all your help!

Palerider: thank you for mentioning 1200 on Ebay: (the rare 2 cylinder version haha;-)! To be clear ALL 430 Khamsins were 4.9 liter V8's. Will be posting later today about its earlier history and a number of other Khamsins I have just received info on.

    best regards,
