    I was talking to a customer today about valve sizes. I dragged out some different valves I had laying around and kinda got a laugh when we set them out to compare sizes. Left to right are NHRA Pro stock 500 cu. in valves (2.45"intake,1.920"ex) Nascar GM 358 cu. in. valves, (2.180" intake, 1.625"ex) and Ferrari 355 intake and ex valves(1.043"int., 1.123" ex).
    Just thought some of you might like to see this pic!

    Those are pretty pathetic looking compared to the others. It's amazing that the 355 can put out the power it does with those teeny weeny valves.

    Say.

    Just for kicks, how about a comparison of the pistons?

    Done. When I get to the shop Monday I'll look up some old dyno pulls.

    Ernie--I'll dig out some pistons too for comparision.

    Horsepower per liter (roughly)
    Pro Stock- 173hp/liter
    Nascar(cue banjo music)-135hp/liter
    F355- 108hp/liter ---not bad for a pump gas, coffee and drive on Sunday morning car!

    Need to throw in also not bad considering it has cats, a restrictive regulated muffler, and gets 18+ mpg!

    The Ferrari valves maybe small but you guys are forgetting there are 3 of those(intake) and just one for the other engines. For an engine that is 207 ci and will run all day at 8000 rpm, that is amazing.

    Don't stroke it too much, because there is a point of diminishing return, and a big mess to clean up!

    Exactly, the 355 has 5 valves per cylinder. Add up the total valve area of Ferrari's 5 compared to other engines 2 per cylinder and the Ferrari's actually have a larger area!!

    As promised (approx. torque)
    Pro Stock- 840 ft/lbs 0-60mph < 1 sec.
    Nascar- 565 ft/lbs 0-60 (who cares?)
    355- 268 ft/lbs 0-60 4.7 sec.

    Ernie- forgot the piston pics- I'll try to get some tomorow :)
