Wife and I are remodelling the basement... If you can't sell your house, you remodel... right ;).

Anyhoo... I have to tell you that ripping out carpet took a lot out of me. Then the huge roll arrived from Home Depot. The 25 year old kid easily dragged it off the truck, down to the ground. I helped him carry it in. 12ftx50 ft. Probably weight 150lbs... felt like 500, as I tried to hold onto it with my finger tips... 10 years ago I could have thrown that thing around...

Having a sedentary job takes a lot out of you. Going to the gym couple times a week does little to off set that...

We moved a lot of furniture around too. And I have to tell you, my furniture moving days are coming to an end. I used to laugh at folks paying $5000-$10,000 plus to move their house a couple of miles. Now... I get it. Wife has a slipped disk, my back is shot...

Oh... and when I pee it just isn't strong enough to compare to a race hore any more... sigh...

I read a lot of your posts and you have actually got me thinking about my health, well you and one guy on a different forum. I rearranged my pool house last night and assembled a treadmill and an elliptical sears dropped off then spent about 10 minutes on the elliptical. The treadmill I think may be too much for my knees but the wife likes it. I worked really hard throughout my 20's and into my 30's. I figured I earned the right to sit on my ass now. However I have not earned the right to let my body fall apart from not using it. You know I can say for sure if you do a lot of sitting around after a while you feel like crap.

You probably didn't even know you were a mentsh.

37 days after I turned 40 (this year) I was hospitalized with diverticulitis. 2 months later I have a foot less large colon and 4 new belly buttons from the surgery.

Up until then I have never been sick a day in my life.

I felt old then, really for the first time ever

Eye sight for me. Although I haven't come to terms with it yet and still trying to fight it. When my optometrist told me I hated it. My eye sight had always been above average. I told her when I was flying I used to be able to spot other aircraft from a long way off. She laughed and told me I still would be able too but if I wanted to read the Sectional maps and not get lost I better wear the reading glasses.

Though I'm only 21, the past year and a half/two years have taught me to appreciate a lot more in life. Sadly I don't get as excited as I used to around Christmas. :(

The standard six inch drop on suits is now not standard for me. I always have to let out the pants a bit. There have been many times when my humble tailor has said to me, "But boss, there's just no more material left." I have furniture disease. Everyone knows this one: it's when your chest falls into your drawers.

The wife & I decided...hey, we haven't been bowling since we don't know when...I ended up in physical therapy for 6 months.

Don't you dare laugh while I try to get up off the floor. Stupids knees and hips...waiting for a coupon in the Sunday paper for a discount on new ones.

It's getting tougher to get off the couch now a days. I wonder if that comes with age or just laziness?

All I can tell you is to exercise. My vision isn't what it used to be, either, particularly in low light while trying to read fine print. I am, however, in extremely good physical shape for a 40 year-old, have muscle definition of a 25 year-old and I do not tire very easily.

Hair started receding in my mid 30s. I just take clippers and shave it. I have some graying in my stubble - I like it that way. I also still meet younger women, although I could really care less about them.

When you see a cute girl in a movie, look up her name on IMDB and realize that the year she was born, is a year you remember doing something (like "oh that was the year I graduated high school!"). I feel really old when that happens.

When younger kids (early 20's) start to think of you as part of "the older crowd"

    Random aches and pains

Seeing "young people" do things and thinking "they must be stupid to even think about doing that" (example: seeing a kid in a Camaro do a burnout from a light)

    Having to be more responsible

    Gray hair

    More hair

    Less hair

Discovering fun and exciting new "medical conditions" you have

Forgetting the names of things or people more easily
