I think it would look even better with the B-pillar painted black:

Good point. I'll keep that in mind when I take the car for a respray. Particularly with my tinted windows.

Here a pic of my car from last spring: The roof is still the original, but painted. Meanwhile I replaced it with the CF roof, which is still black.

And now in black. You say you also have the CF roof... I would love to see a side by side comparison that shows what they mean by "More GTB shape." Can you put the camera on a tripod take a profile shot of the car with the standard Targa top on. Then put the CF top on and take another picture?

    Thanks.

How do people feel about painting the A column black as well? Kinda like the 288 GTO.

Seems to me that the problem with painting the A pillar black is that then when you do remove the Targa top you will have this odd bit of body color above the windshield. So then you end up painting black all the way around the windshield like a 1981 308 GTSi which looks fine as long as the roof panel is black which of course is in conflict with the subject of this thread.

Here is a picture you decide I am torn. I think the black above the windshield looks odd,

I agree. I wouldn't paint that part black, just the A column as it is on the GTO.

The B pillar should definitely be black. The A pillar and the area above the roof should be body color, IMO.

(Funny, though: Some owners of GTBs try to make them look like GTOs. Here we have owners of the GTS trying to make it look more like a GTB.) ;)

I believe that with the exception of the roof panel that is the original paint scheme for that model year.

I really wanted a GTB, but couldn't find one. I think its lines are much more pure. And I just plain hate the original louvres on the GTS. To each his own.

For a long time I was contemplating making a GTO replica out of my 308, but have been hesitant. Not for purist reasons, but it costs a ton of money and if done poorly you end up with some very unsatisfying.

PS: Just this morning I was interviewed on TV and the guy asked the rhetoric question "Your Ferrari is all original?" and I laughed and said, no, I'm trying hard to make it as unoriginal as possible. :)

I have no objection to the GTS-to-GTB mod, as I do believe that they look better, and it's still obvious that the car is a GTS. I do object to the GTO-look "re-bodies," however, because it smacks of fraud, pretending to be something it's not.

Now, I can't believe you're really serious about making your Ferrari "as unoriginal as possible." If you didn't want a Ferrari, you'd have bought something else. ;)

I don't have an issue with replicas, but the problem with the GTO rebody is that a) if not done correctly the whole car starts to warp, because the fibreglass isn't as stiff as the metal panels and b) if you don't do engine improvements, it doesn't have the hp to back up the looks. The 308 is already relatively underpowered compared to its looks. As a GTO rebody it becomes a sheep in wolf's clothing.

The goal is not to make it unoriginal, but I just love mods, particularly bits and pieces of carbon fibre. Can't have enough of those on the car. :) Besides: Everybody has a 308 and they all look the same, so a bit of variety is in order.

I've always thought white 308's were OK, but Tillmans car looks stunning! I own a GTB QV. and its got nothing on his car as far as looks!

    That's because it is not a 308...
    :)

It's a 328. And yes it looks fantastic.

yep, checked again and your right! But in my defense I've always liked the 308's better than 328's -so double kudos to Tillman!!!

If wanting the GTB look, the A pillar and trim above windscreen molding should be body colour; B pillar black!

    End of story....

Unfortunately, there's not really a good cut line on the roof for that black B pillar. You can just tape it off, but it ends up just kinda floating up there rather than following a body contour.

Thanks -- but I don't have a white car. That's mine, but photochopped white from the real battleship gray by a talented friend so that another friend could see what his white 328 would look like.
