Nice work Hugh. I wonder why the alt has a big output of 130 amps+?? I wouldnt have thought the 355 electrical system wouldnt have needed it?? Perhaps overkill from the factory?
Yup, I too am still working on finding-out the answer to the brushes question. I thought I had the answer, but nope. Of course I will post the results if I ever manage to find out. I also have 2 guys at an alternator rebuild shop looking for me, but I don't have a spare to let them have. It may have to wait to I finally end-up rebuilding mine. BTW, this site is great for stainless steel allen-head hardware to replace the junk on the alternator (you can buy single pieces) LINK: http://www.boltdepot.com/Catalog.aspx?wt.srch=1&wt.mc_id=5 And, if you really want some really HIGH GRADE fasteners LINK: http://www.awfasteners.com/
I'm happy I could help. It's a team effort I tell ya, a team effort. Awesome job, and thanks for letting the rest of the fellas know that another successful do-it-yourself job as been completed. Real men fix their own cars. LOL!
