Why should one NOT buy a 1995 F355 Spider (manual)?

Anyone have the slightest idea how many 'Serie Fiorano' were made in black? Very curious to this "last edition" 355 Spider.

Now I also know the difference between F355 and 355

 

The difference, if any, is *supposed* to be the F1 semi-auto transmission instead of the 6 speed manual tranny.

For a used car, the F1 semi-auto tranny has an interesting advantage: it never misses a shift...never grinds a gear.

Whereas eventually *every* human driver will grind a gear and dust a little metal into their tranny fluid.

So you've got a better chance of having a good gearbox if you buy a used F1 tranny car. Just a thought.

I'm not interested in the "F1 systems" unless: 1) It's the system in the Scuderia 2) It's a superfast DSG box.


Thank for the reply. To me F50 ranks as the most desirable Ferrari, the Scuderia is a close second the F355 is the most achievable and on third. Maybe I do want to sell a kidney to get a late model instead...

Either way I twist and turn this debate with myself: It has to be a Spider. The top may come down 4 times a year but it looks to me twice as beautiful as the Berlinetta.

And boy... I did find a 10 page 355 vs 360 article in a old car mag... Going to read it before sleep. Forza Ferrari!

 

You want to own a normal daily driver Ferrari before acquiring a Ferrari supercar ala F40 or F50. And if I wanted a 355, the 1995 6 speed would be at the top of mylist.

 

I can't accquire a supercar but would probably be just as satisfied with the F355. I have seen very good conditions 1997 spiders with 6 speed within my budget and a 1995-1999 Spider with stick is probably where I'm going to end.

It is awesome!! I drive it 3+ times a week, top is down 95% of the time here in SOCAL. Had a 348 for 1 year and loved that but this completely different, the 6 speed is wonderful, power seats and top are cool to have and the 375HP and greatest exhaust note ever is addicting. Fortunately, no issues in over a year just routine oil changes and tires. It offers the most bang for the buck for entry level Ferraris. There is no reason you should not buy one!!

Motivating post, indeed I don't care if it's considered entry-level, I wouldn't trade for anything less than a Scuderia or something. Other cars are interesting under the Ferrari brand buuut few turn me on this way...

 

Because most are polished turds that's why. Most of these 355's need more then a ton of work, to get them back even remotely close to the level they left the factory. They are a wonderful car when driving and running as intended, but most have seriously deferred maintenance issues that with bite you in the wallet very hard. Do your research and spend upwards of 10k MORE to get the right car with ALL service records. Otherwise your dream will turn sour very fast.

 

Yup... I will be buying from someone who has the entire history and maintenance in order... And I'm going to save up another 10-15k just in case my luck runs out some time...

Fact is, any car can cost you big money, the car we are talking about here will return more to the driver than 99% of other cars. Take the time to experience a F355 and you will soon be forgetting about this that might break or that that is sticky. The 355, along with a lot, if not all, Ferrari's are a dream, they are a dream to look at, they are a dream to smell, they are a dream to sit in and they are a dream to hear, they are a dream to drive, they sometimes need help, and at points during my ownership so far it has felt like the car has a soul, it's almost alive, like a cute little puppy dog holding its leash in it's mouth, willing its owner to take it for a walk. Then when you head out it turns into a pit bull urging you on with a fierce bark and constant tugging at the rope. It really is something else, the more you experience it the more it becomes a part of you, like those cold evening's with your cat on your lap, it comforts you to pat the cat, it becomes a part of the things you really enjoy, for reasons words cannot describe, I guess you could say we fall in love with these cars.

Spend a day with one, trust me, you will not be able to live without it.


This is assuming Ferrari ownership is a dream of yours, if not, and you are buying this to impress the neighbors then RUN, 355's are for people who are passionate about Ferrari. Buy a Porsche to impress the Jones'

Ferrari F355 is a dream of mine, without doubt, I have had a thing for it since I got my drivers license and discovered the thrill of driving. The reason I don't want any other Ferrari (within my budget, 550 Maranello, 360 Modena) is that this is raw and captures the Enzo spirit, the design might be getting old but every single time I have seen in on pictures or in real life I have been thinking "what a lucky man...". I also prefer something hardcore with not much comfort involved, as I from day one would prefer to drive a fun hatchback instead of a luxury car costing ten times more...

It's not Ferrari I'm passionate about, but I'm extremely passionate about this particular model and would take good care of it... I'm just a big car nut in general, the plan was to first experience 997 GT3 and then move up to Scuderia in the future, but I cannot look pass it.
It's like one of those very few cars on the top of your top 10 list that you just have to have once in your lifetime.
