Looking soon to properly refinish the wheels on my 78 400a. Did the research on treating the bare wheels, proper primer etc but having a hard time finding the correct color without being a metalic. Also thought of doing something of a brighter sliver. I see that Wurth and another German rattle can mfg have silvers but they are metalic. Thoughts /suggestions /pics ? Thanks

Not sure if your car has a different tint of silver on the wheels but the guy that did the wheels of my friends 328 (that won Platinum and scored the most points in his class at the Ferrari National Concorso 2 years ago) uses Mercedes Silver and says it is a PERFECT match for Ferrari wheels. I believe he also used it on the same friend's Daytona during its restoration.

He also painted my 328 wheels in black back in the day.

    Hope that helps.

If you need specifics, call Greg at St. Donatus Auto Body in St. Donatus, Iowa. The guy is unreal at his craft. You may consider sending him your wheels. His shop rates beat anything I have ever seen and his quality matches that.

    Griot's Kit is pretty close..

As stated it's 'silver' but not heavy flake..no clear coat either, to be OEM correct.

This spare out of an '83 400i, appears to be unused.....fine metal flake.

BTW Art, my spare tire appears to be unused w/date code of 013, I'm suspecting 13th wk of 1980 & looks to be identical shape as my new TRX's (1304 date code) w/the exception that the new ones smell & feel a little bit fresher (& stickier).

That date code was a typo, it's 1308.

Anything more specific than "Mercedes silver"
    MFR, code etc.?
