+348 :) ............ if the paint is done well and proper, there is zero devaluation .......... and if documented as well as this ............... IMO it adds value .....

Shame to see your CS stripes disappear, hope you'll put 'em back on when the car is finished.
BTW the work looks great m8, and I'd say about time, I've seen your car and both Henning (the other Norwegian bloke
at Auto Italia) and myself noticed all those "annoying" spots all around your car, so I'm REALLY looking forward to see your
car in flesh next spring m8.
Please keep us updated!!! Cant wait to see the final result!

    Cheers m8!!! :):)

The stripes are going to be painted on this time in a mettalic colour and they will also be on the rear grill. The guy who stuck the vinyl stripe on originally wouldn't do it and I thought it all looked half finished.

The paint was getting bad in places with scartches, marks and the bubbling on the bonnets. Plus, previous sub-standard paintwork was done before I got the car and I had no choice but to have a full back to metal repsray done and I'm glad I did esepcially as it's being done by a pro like Al.

Only thing left is the engine cradle. Next time I have an engine out service done, i'm going to get the cradle sandblasted and powder coated. then the car will be perfect. :D

No, going to paint it black... but I will be installing a Flux capacitor. :D :D :D

A few poeople have asked me about the cost of the respray. Here's what Al charges.

    308/328 GTB/GTS REPAINT/COLOUR CHANGE £2500.00.

    308/328 GTB/GTS BARE METAL REPAINT £3950.00.

    348/355 TB/TS & GTB/GTS REPAINT/COLOUR CHANGE £2850.00.

    348/355 SPIDER REPAINT/COLOUR CHANGE £2400.00.

    348/355 TB/TS & GTB/GTS BARE METAL REPAINT £4400.00. (This is what I'm having done)

348/355 SPIDER BARE METAL REPAINT £3900.00.

    360/CS FRONT END & SIDESKIRTS £1250.00.

    360/CS REPAINT/COLOUR CHANGE £2750.00.

    550/575 REPAINT/COLOUR CHANGE £3100.00.

    Day 9

    Things are going well.

I look forward to Al's email everyday with his updates and the pictures.

He's found a few minor bits of rust, which perhaps is not surprising for a 14 year old car. Just imagine what would have happned if I had left it for a few more years!!!

    Al says.....

"The 'detail' stripping on the o/s is done (the awkward areas like the rear quarter window surround, front 'screen aperture, side suages, wheelarch lips etc).

The rust in the 'screen aperture corner is very superficial - it will only need a very light blast.

The worst bit is the section that is normally partially hidden by the outer sill cover at the base of the B post, & even that is only heavily pitted, but I will be cutting that section out, fabricating & welding a new section in as it's pretty thin in places. (Had to do the same to the 355 Spider I did in the summer)."

Don't listen to them Sy, for some owners/buyers, sitting in the darned things devalues them big time! I bet it is killing you not being able to drive it right now.

A well done bare metal respray is a lot more inticing to me than original paint on a 20 year old Ferrari. I would not hesitate to buy this car at a premium knowing it was done correctly.

Not sure if you were serious (as that sounded bit odd) but I think you might have mixed colour change and getting bare metal restoration. Latter with photos of differerent stages (bare metal, primer, final paint) will only (when done properly) increase value, and actually finding one with totally original paint in every part of body is not that easy.
But often colour change actually does de-value car a bit, but that depends of buyer.

    Day 11

    Al says....

"Pics from today - spot-sandblasting done on all of the minor rust patches.

1st coat of filler applied & blocked down.
    2nd coat of filler applied.
2nd coat of filler blocked down."

I've decided to have the wheel arches rolled as well. I've been denting the front ones quite regularly. It got so bad that i had a hammer and lump of wood permanently in the boot of the 348.

    Thanks Mike.

You can't believe how impressed I am with what he's done so far. Only thing left will be the refurb of the engine cradle which I'll do next year.

    Here's another picture.

This is of Al working on the rear buttress. According to him, there's a distortion on that panel on all the 348's he's done and it comes like that from the factory.

He's also told me there'll be some big progress this weekend as well!!!
