I'm thinking of getting a new rear view mirror as I've been informed that mine was originally taken apart and glued back together. I've never noticed it, but now that i know, it's bugging me. Are the 348 & 355 ones the same? They have a different part number. What about a 360 rear view mirror? Anyone put one of those on? They are a lot cheaper than the 348/355 ones.
If you're talking about the inside rear view mirror, I can tell you that when the windscreen was replaced on my ts I had to replace the mirror as well, because the old mirror would not fit onto the base plate on the new glass - different shape. And I wasn't going to risk the new glass by removing and switching the base plates. I sold the old mirror years ago to another FChat member. Also, it seems to me that there was a another difference between the old and new mirrors. The new mirror sits lower, I think it has a longer "stalk", and it's a bit annoying to have it so low. It interferes with vision when turning at intersections.
I put a wider, slimmer aftermarket mirror into my Porsche 928 last month. Reduces blind spots and enhances forward viewing. It's black and has a near identical look to the old OEM unit...for $16. Mounted it slightly higher...very nice. Took ten minutes for me to install using the glue kit. If I replace my 348s rearview mirror, I might add a little functionality, such as below: http://www.piddles.net/V1-Install.htm Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I feel the same about the rear-view impeding visibilty, especially since the tiny back windshield can't utilize a rear mirror taller than 1 3/4 in. Maybe it's different across the pond. I'd kill to have a short, narrow rearview mirror, it's kind of nice to be able to see stoplights, pedestrians, etc. Also, the worthless side mirrors... Gripe over.
So you shoud be able to fit it without changing the fitting glued to the window... You can have it... For nothing ;-)
