Great Thread (with a capital T)!

Will post some soon, but also really would like to see some pics of period workshop's and Michelotti's drawings and working area.

    Thanx
    Oscar

What a great thread for some truly beautiful cars.
I have recently been looking in to the cars that competed in the Mille Miglia between 1947 & 1957 and surprised by how many Vignale bodied Ferrrai's participated. And even more surprised at the success these cars achieved.
And to those who are looking to learn more about this subject may I recommend Massini's book 'Ferrari by Vignale' and a rather superb book 'Making A Difference' again by some chap called Massini.

    Marcel,

Are you aware of a point in time that resulted in the ultimate demise of Vignale?
Was it as a result of a certain car design or as a result of the loss of a figurehead (of the Vignale family)?
And what made the Vignale bodied cars so successful during the early 1950s?
Were they really successful or was it that the vast majority of competition Ferrari's of this era were clothed by Vignale and thus Vignale appeared successful (with a lesser number of Touring, Ghia Pinin Farina etc bodied models)?
