I don't mind sharing the road with terror stricken drivers as long as they stick to the right lane(s). But they don't. Screwing it for all.

...i got a bit chilled driving home top-down last night, but this morning i won't trust my daily driver to rush-hour traffic: i'm leaving the lotus in the garage and taking the cold-weather-equipped turbobeetle instead...

Today is a non-event. My commute took a whopping 10 minutes longer than normal, more because of idiot drivers than the roads. Two of my employees have called with 'drama', running late. Yeah, right.

    I have drama.

    Can we commiserate?

I drove the TR and the interior lights came on but not the instrument lights when I switched on the high beams.

    Vroom.

As soon as it starts icing over, the entire city of Austin shuts down. You don't go anywhere, no one does anything. No one goes anywhere. Shut down completely.

I'll actually be up in Dallas on Thursday, but drinking with the rest of the company.

With all the hills in Austin I bet it was fun to watch the carnage.

Really? I couldn't even get to the corner in ten minutes. Our streets were coated in ice. The ABS activated 4 times between my house and Ian's bus stop down the street. Let alone the nice backward slide down my driveway. It took me 4 attempts to get back up the driveway to get back inyo the garage. I didn't even attempt to get to the office today.

Give it 24 hours, we are going to be back in the same boat. At least this time Jim will be happy because nobody is calling in with drama... it will be Saturday!

All it takes is one snowflake and DFW turns into total chaos; pickups skidding off the roads, meatheads sliding through intersections, monkeys parking in the middle of intersections, potato heads tailgating and morons speeding. I stay home and watch the cars slide down my street and hit things.

I bought some metal trax for my shoes and walk around the ice like there's no issues. You'd be stunned how many think their sneakers or boots can grip ice. I've saved a few over the years. You don't need the trax much, but when you do, you do.

Last year when we had some rather heavy ice and snow (for these parts), I was scraping it off the drive way just to see a truck slide by my mailbox at 30+ mph backwards. I wish I had a camera. Fortunately no one was hurt, just my neighbor's yard and the meatheads ego.

I don't understand the stupidity down here. I travel all over the country and drive in all sorts of weather--what makes this area so stunned by inclement weather? It comes every year.

Something that has popped into my head since it randomly self-generated one day - of course, behind someone "driving carefully" like the swerving at shadows, randomly braking, oblivious roving road hazard they didn't know they are:

(to the tune of Smashing Pumpkins' Bullet With Butterfly Wings, which was on the radio at that moment)
The world is a school zone, get the f#%* out of my way
Schedule destroyer, get your foot off of the brakes (a variation is similar to the last half of the first verse)
And where do you go, just ahead of me
Killed my shortcut, way to make it just lame......

Kinda makes it a little less annoying trudging behind sonmeone who probably shouldn't be on the roads if they're that terrified.
It's either that, or self-medicating before getting in the car. :D

Fortunately, I learned to drive in snow and ice when I was young, dumb, and fearless. Mall parking lots became playgrounds - now, security would chase you off, backed up by a mob of lawyers and "victims" of your dangerous antics. :( No wonder kids (and most adults around here) can't drive if a snowflake is sighted.

The first dusting of 2012, and my commute takes 2+ hours due to north Fort Worth drivers smashing into each other. Great start to Snowmaggedon 2012!!!one!

Saw 4 accidents on I20 driving back from Longview today. Cancelled my trip to San Marcos tomorrow (was going to leave at 6am). I'm willing to bet traffic will be FUBAR tomorrow morning.

you would have been right until about 7 am, then the sleet completely layered DFW. Jennie decided to leave 5 minutes before it hit thinking it was clear, has been an hour and I don't think she's made it yet even in a 4x4 truck.
