... and he kept the camera rolling! Glad to see the two guys are OK. Must have hurt the car pretty bad though.
The 360 is notorious for having the back end "snap" out like that many a time. Why do you think challenge cars add those great big wings to the rear for more down force! Be careful! Robert
...yup...been there, done that... That's how mine happened. All too easy on a wet road. He(like I) wasn't even going that fast (I was going maybe 65 around a 100+(in the dry) turn) Lesson here: DON'T Drive your 360 in the wet! Not because you don't want to get the car wet, but because they have absolutely no grip in the wet..... Hunter
It does look like it but no, we drive on the left over here It's in Switzerland according to the youtube info. John.
+1 I'll have to listen again, but I think that he downshifted just before he went a*s around. Sounded like he was just pushing the throttle and around she came.... Regardless, that was pretty spirited driving for the conditions. Hope they are OK. JIM
rear aero doesn't correct snap oversteer. the car would still snap, it would just do it at higher speeds and cornering loads.
Damn, that makes me flashback to the day I crashed my car. When it happens, its so surreal. Kept thinking that it was just a dream and I would wake up soon enough.....turns out it was reality biting my azz.
why did they lose it ? It didn't seem that fast or out of shape? I don't know the handling of these cars any one tell me ,Thanks bobby
Looks like trailing throttle oversteer. The car downshifts at the start of the final corner, he's off the throttle and around she comes. The engine braking effect resulted in the rear wheels locking up slightly and then it oversteers. There may have also been a depression in the road in the middle of that final corner which helped to throw the car off balance.
In my wife's SUV I could have made that turn at a faster speed. That's the just scariest part about when it happens to you. It's a complete shock that it happened, because in a normal car it never would have even blinked. Heck if I would have drove home in the 360 last night(in the rain) the way I drove home in my 10 year old Chevy Malibu, I would have spun it and crashed it. Glad I still have the rain car in the stable. Be scared. Be VERY scared in your 360 on a wet road. H
Glad they are ok. A similar crash here, but even more wierd. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=TpvafIDc3MY For a pure sports car, the 360 Modena seems very unreliable on the road.
I dont think its a fault with the car but rather poor driving technique. It seems to me he entered the corner too fast and then lifted off the gas and upset the cars balance mid corner and the rest is history.
Not stock 360 challenge cars..but you're talking about the GT2 wing? or whatever its called? seems that way..360 Challenge cars were pretty bad in the wet even with ASR on & rain tires..but it all comes down to driving technique
Yep, I had seen this video before, and it's what flashed in my mind as I almost lost my 360 in the snow last week: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225016
360s can be a little tail-happy. Check out this video of Spencer Pumpelly's first drive in a Challenger Stradale. He has to put in all in steering input. BTW, Spencer is a Pro Grand Am driver for those who don't know of him Enjoy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wkwDP6xmCQ
