Not sure if this has been done before or how interesting it would be, but I would love to see a thread of our fellow FChatters announcing themselves racing on dates/locations/cars, etc. I was inspired by the 24hrs of Daytona thread and realize there are several other professional racers here. It would be nice to be able to pick them out to cheer for specifically.

Sorry if this has been done or sounds stupid, it would just be pretty cool for me to brag about to the wife. :p

I'll continue racing in the Rotax karting program next year. I'll also be at a skippy shootout at sebring, for a seat in the nationals for 2009. I might be doing some Skippy regional races, here and there, as well!

Plan to run a few SoCal Pro-Kart Challenge events next year.

    I have a Birel w/ Stock Honda 125

Will run S4 - Stock Moto Heavy (not a front runner, but hopfully a mid-packer)

Stock Honda huh? Awesome. I don't know how much depth that particular field has, but those karts are pretty quick. Have you gotten used to the shifting and everything? Carrying the momentum etc.?

I think it's a great idea. Doesn't even need to be pro racers. There are quite a few accomplished amatuers that race in this crowd and we all like the idea of people cheering us on. ;)

SCCA, Challenge, NASA, vintage/historic, karts... Bring it on!

I'm getting there ... still apexing wrong .. looking for 1+ seconds before I race. My shifting rhythm is fine, rarely miss a gear

There are quite a few Hondas in SoCal ... always some out on open practice days.

I weigh 215+ and the Rotax won't pull me out of hairpins fast enough ... gets frustrating when dicing with friends who weigh in the 170's :D

Rik, you are really our hero now that you've moved away from that big, heavy GT car! :D

Coming to Sebring this year or LMS only?

In any case, we're pulling for you!

    Thanks!

We'll do a lot of testing in Europe in March, and so won't do Sebring.

However, after the LMS season we may do Petit and Laguna.

Keep "watching" our website (www.teammodena.com) - we'll have some exciting drivers to announce soon..........

Glad this thread has caught on as much as it has. I'm thinking of posting links to other threads posted by driver's/co-drivers. Best of luck to you guys, I truly do envy you!

RTB: can't wait to see the F430, but it will probably only be on TV. :p

You doing Paul Ricard in March? Team Gear needed for Barcelona - on the website??? I concur with Peter in a prior post - can't wait for the driver line-up. Any consideration for the Spa 24 even if it's the other series? Do you have any info on when the hotel at the Algarve circuit opens? Happy Holidays.

    Carol

We'll miss #59 :-( - guess we get to see her one more time?

Just went through some galleries on the site. You guys have some awesome cars. I've always wanted to race but have never been able to afford it. You guys truly are blessed and it's obvious you are enjoying your careers! I gotta admit, I am doing what I love but I'd trade it all to be behind the wheel. :p

I like it - LMS awesome, good luck with it. As previously mentioned, Daytona 22nd-26th of Jan plus all being well running the challenge again this summer - calendar is

    March 19-22....Homestead Miami Speedway, FL
    April 17-19......Road Atlanta, GA
    May 1-3..........Infineon, Napa Valley
    June 26-28.......Road America, WI
    July 24-26........Mt. Tremblant, QC Canada
    Sept 18-20......NJ Motorsports Park, NJ
    Nov 5-8........World Finals, Italy

    From http://www.ferrarichallenge.com/news/index2.cfm?cid=20010&cat_id=216

Would like to a) improve on last years results, and b) kick the habit of contact causing ME to spin and be at the back of the field.

Also would be tempted to do the Grand-Am Glen event, but that might be one event too far.

Dave, how did you get into rallying? Love watching WRC and Rally America, and was wondering how one becomes a rally driver.

    I'm a glutton for punishment.
Was a WRC fan of the GroupB era thru cars I owned. Didn't know there was rallyracing in states until I was looking for a shop to build a rollcage for a hillclimb car I was building. They rallied and I went a service crewed for them a couple events. Then thought being in the car would be more fun.

Being a driver is easy. Buy a rallycar or have one built and enter a rally. $ helps.

Man, look into club racing. You can do it cheap. You can even rent a car. You might not go that fast but if all the other cars in your class are moving at the same speed it is great fun.

I race a Porsche 924 at our local track Waterford Hills.

I bought my car on e-bay. I got two race cars one with a motor one without, 4 extra fenders, two extra doors, one extra hatch, 6 sets of tires and 3 sets of rims all for $2500.00. I race 6 weekends a year and entry fees are $150.00 per weekend and I get 4 races each weekend. Of course I have put a lot of labor into my car but that doesn't cost much.

Yeah, and I was the only bid! The racing seats, roll cages and seat belts were worth that much.

I only took one of the cars and all of the parts. I did not want to transport the other car from Philly to Detroit. I now regret that decision. I've raced two years on the same motor but I'm looking to rebuild a motor this winter.

Last summer I bought two 924's that I parted out (I needed spares) one I bought for $200 and the other I traded one set of rims for the entire car. It did not run, someone had removed the fuel injection system and tried putting carburator on it. Car had sat in a barn for the last 15 years and body panels were in very good shape.

In my class at Waterford there are a lot of 4 cylinder Mustangs a Fiero an MGB some 1970 Volvo's etc., etc.
