With all due respect.... (this one is too easy).

You pass judgement on those who don't want spoilers by dismissing their beef as unfounded and stupid and that they just shouldn't come to the forum.

but, the irony is that you haven't taken the time to even understand what the objection is.

I have said it a million times and nobody has answered it... in what way does it diminish the forum by not being allowed to put spoilers in the title? You can start any thread you want, talk about anything you want. You just have to title the thread in a way that prevents spoilers.

It's very selfish not to do this... it's saying "yeah, I could not post spoilers and it wouldn't affect me or the forum one but, but all of you people who don't want spoilers are stupid and I'll do what I want and it's your fault if you don't like it".

Anyway, too bad - the spoiler rule exists, and people will continue to get banned when they break it - and I'm glad for that. They need to respect the rules and need to respect their fellow forum members. If they cannot accept the rules, they need to find a new forum to talk about racing in.

Why can't we just have ONE THREAD for EACH RACE SESSION?

    For example:

    "CHINA - 2009 - Practice"
    "CHINA - 2009 - Qual"
    "CHINA - 2009 - RACE"

Then all subsequent discussions could be in those threads, and no spoilers would be needed. That's how some of the sports forums I am a member of do it for each weekend.

the way i look at it, Mike, thats the only way. if u haven't watched the race, and intend to watch the race, then stay away from the F1 section. nothing to feel stupid or silly about it.

i for one, always put the 'Spoiler' title for quali and race threads. Steve & Carol too. but sometimes, **** happens. newbies register, w/out reading the rules, and they start a thread with the results as the title. so whats the solution? whats the prevention? Fchat mods can't go out there and educate and point out to these newbies to add the spoiler. so, IMHO, if u haven't watched the race, and intend to watch the race, then it's as simple as staying away from the F1 section.

The answer seems so obvious? The forum is clearly very diminished by not having real titles. Thread titles are an integral part of the organization of information.

Not a big deal; it has just always seemed ridiculous to me, and an unfortunate loss. I had hoped the new F1 section would alleviate the nonsense.

Its a really great idea, but we still have idiots here that would complain because you told them the race was at China and they did not know it was 2009! Their bodies grew but their brain did not.

The Captain Obvious message is for the obvious-challenged, as it beats the alternative of dear readers seeing spoilers, reporting spoilers to section mudderaters, mudderaters fixing thread title, then PMing or e-mailing out suggestions/requests/warnings, and/or logging in to another mudderater panel to ban over-caffeinated bedwetters... again. Then repeating the whole process another 100 times.

I did a quick look and there is no easily configurable option to turn off title displays on the main page for just F1. Next step is seeing what kind of hack we can do.

As I said above, for me at least, a "sub-forum" (from within "racing"?) would work - Don't know how hard that would be or if titles would still show up in the home page.

As for the people "attacking" those of us who want the spoiler rule maintained, it appears that they're *writers* and not *readers* who simply don't get it!

    Come on!

You *still* don't get it do you?..... I DO "know enough to stay away from the F1 section". BUT, the way it is at present means I've got to stay away from Fchat completely - Because morons can't obey the friggin rules and put spoilers in titles that show up on the home page!

I agree with Mike - Not having spoilers in titles takes nothing away from the thread - If you know what's happened it's not hard to figure out what is being said.

Hopefully Rob can work out some magic so we don't have to revisit this *again*, again.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

I guess my point is this . . . people either (a) have manners or (b) they don't. If they have manners, they will realize that internet boards can spoil details. If they have no manners, no amount of reminding them will change their attitude. We are talking about personal behavior, not forgetfulness. By the time you log on, select the forum, select the thread or create a new one, type the message and hit send, you are either mindful of your manners or you just don't give a frick.

I think we are into overkill here, but I guess I am just as guilty, as I continue to read and post about spoilers.

why can't i come in the F1 section if i don't want the race spoiled? why can't people start a thread about the race and not include spoilers? i like to talk about the race before it happens. Just don't put spoilers in the thread title. If there are spoilers in the posts, say so so i don't go in there and have my race ruined. It's interesting how two sets of people can be so far apart on this. I'm a fanatic. i watch every practice, qualy and race, usually live. but sometimes i can't. why do you want to spoil it for me?

I like the No Spoiler rule. The many reasons have already been mentioned above. It's not any harder to type "Race results from China 09" than it is to type "So and So wins China 09."

I wouldn't be against dropping the rule if there was a sub forum that wasn't visible from the main pages, though.

But that's just it... it's not about staying away from the F1 section, because the titles show in the main page, so you have to stay away from the whole site.

IMO not acceptable to expect people not to enjoy any of the site just because some selfish folks can't/wont be respectful and just not put spoilers in the title.

it's so easy to do. And as has been said a million times, it's not just about the racing or F1 section.

So you are saying it's impossible to put un-spoiler titles without diminishing the forum? Why?

Can you provide any example of a title that would be diminished without the spoiler? I can't think of one.

Hell, even when Kimi won WDC last year, it would be simple to make a topic title to discuss without a spoiler.

The only thing that is nonsense about it is that some f-chatters don't seem to give a crap about their fellow f-chatters. :(

It must be a cold day in hell today because I am agreeing with a wetpet post... but we should all remember that there are many different time zones and not all races are broadcast live. It's not just about whether someone was "stupid" for recording a race and coming to the F1 section first. For example, usually 2 or 3 races are broadcast on Speed in the mid afternoon. Expecting someone to stay away from ALL of f-chat until 2pm just because people who watched it live in Europe, or people who stayed up until 4am to watch it on some internet TV-feed is just very unfair and rude to fellow f-chatters.

There is nothing that can't be discussed, nothing you can't say... the only restriction is to not spoil it in the title, and put "spoiler" in the title.

I am reminded that some of those who are most angry about not being able to post spoilers have themselves been reprimanded/banned for doing such. It's just like not vlasting your stereo at 3am... you can still listen to it or put on headphones and crank it. You aren't deprived of anything other than blasting it and waking up neighbors. It's really so little to ask, I'm amazed it's such a hassle.

What happens the moment a person decides to visit Racing section and there's a spoiler in thread title?

They click on the Spoiler! Then sit back and complain. To bad you can't connect a electric shock to their mouse.

There is a argument to just stay off racing and tracking till you have seen the race, I would but it is very rare I miss it live.

Why I say this, is because there is a good chance a newbie could just plant a spoiler, unaware of the protocol in this particular forum, and hasn't been bothered to read the sticky!

Another point, as this thread is proving popular, is there a assumed amount of days/hours AFTER the race, that a spoiler title needs to be used.

I Tivo each race, and since we go away for the weekend, I don't get to enjoy the race until Sunday evening when we relax and BBQ....

What is so difficult to stick within the rules and not post results?
