I eagerly await finding out just what those might be. I believe you posted a thread asking how we might accomplish that. Make it better, that is.

For Porsches, Rennlist.com is pretty good. I had several 911s before my 360 and used to visit that site daily. It is similar in size and quality.

    Rob,

I guess if I were running this like a business, which you probably are, why not probe the various dimensions of the site that make it what it is. Measure the satisfaction level with these dimensions and see where the opportunity to improve is. I don't pretend to know what all those dimensions are but others might. The first place to start would be to identify the important dimensions and then to select the most strategic to your and the community's needs. Then gather empirical data on how satisfied the populace is with these dimensions and you will have a blueprint for what to do to make the site better.

A list of dimensions could consist of:
    - access speed (the ability to get a complete page up on screen)
    - availability (how often is it down)
    - the predominate browser and operating system your users have
    - ability for moderators to manage problems
    - most important section
    - use of photos to support a post
    - value for subscription fee
    - how intimidated a new user might feel
    - etc.

I'm sure some of your "power-users" could suggest more or even replace the ones I suggested. But asking "which one is best" only gives a "half a loaf" if you know what I mean. Does anyone have any other suggestions for "important dimensions"?

What's wrong with having nonowners on a car forum. That comment sounds pretty condescending. I've frequented this chat for several months before I came an owner learning from very gracious and informative owners on all the things that go into looking for an F-car and technical advice. The fact that we have such a large strata of people brings a lot of good input to the table. If someone asks you a question that they think you have knowledge of answereing, do you just blow them off like their not as worthy because they are not as knowledgable as you? Frequenting this site has nothing to do with "having" an F-car, its about interest in an F-car. F'cars are so amazing because many people "desire" them and most will never have them. Just be extremely greatful that you have been so lucky to be an owner. Ferrari sells millions of caps and T-shirts to fans who will never own a ferrari (this is how they stay in business). They appeat to us when we are young with the merchandise and crap to the hope that someday when we are older and more financially set we will buy one of their cars and join the brotherhood moving from used cars up to new models. I guess its just human nature for us to be snooty to make ourselves fee better, but come on! Quotes like yours will turn a lot of people off from posting where owners like us may miss out on a valuable post nontheless.

First off, congratulations on getting your first Ferrari automobile; I remember the thrill of bringing it home the first day and just staring at it in the driveway. I hope you have yours as long or longer than I own mine.

If my post seemed condescending, that wasn't the intent although I'm sure a lot of non-owners may have taken offense. My main point was and still is that I don't see much valuable information about Ferraris coming from non-owners. Granted there are a few non-owners who are more knowledgeable than we owners are but those individuals are rare - Ferrari technicians for example. That said, I can't recall a childish thread or response being posted by a Ferrari technician or one of those rare non-owners; its mostly the folks who are just hanging around here interjecting "noise". I would agree that some owners do the same thing but if the non-owners were more observers than participants the noise level would be a lot lower.

Regarding how Ferrari makes money I doubt seriously that selling logo merchandise has anything to do with how they stay in business. I would be willing to bet that Ferrari never got a licensing cent from the sale of 80% of the "logo" mercandise that is has been sold. And I suspect they don't have a problem with that because its free advertising for them. (when was the last time you saw an offical Ferrari corporate advertisement?) They are an exclusive organization, distributing exclusive automobiles and services. I simply would prefer if this site was a bit more exclusive too.

    I dont doubt it.

Wannabes come with the territory I am afraid. I bet a site dealing with Diamonds would have a ton of posers too.

I will hold my comments on the main topic, but on this point you are incorrect. I'd be out of a job if Ferrari only received royalties from 20% of it's merchandise.

I know this is OT but what percentage of the items with a Ferrari logo do you think are licensed by Ferrari?

I also like certain sections of Rennlist, NSXprime and so forth. All are good in their specific automotive niche.
But Ferrari chat offers a complete mix of not only model specific sections but racing, politics, business, social, and on and on.
Mostly from like minded people. Some have Ferraris, some had, some will , and perhaps some may never.
If you put a value on their thoughts based solely on what is currently in their garage then you are missing some of the best of what is here.
As a matter of fact if someone strongly believes their opinion's value is based on their physical possessions I am more apt to ignore it.

I'm a wannabe, but not a poseUr. Hope that's okay. The reason I post is that the marque has interested me since Andretti won the South African GP in a 312. The Daytona Spider was THE sporst car for me as a youth, and this FORUM is an interesting place to hear about the cars. That is IF any one here is an actual owner. ****, now I'm paranoid.

OK, I was just hoping for the improvement of the community someone with a specific opinion that FerrariChat.com "wasn't the best" would have specific reasons to that opinion. It’s a little condescending to suggest we never reach out to the community for feedback, you think that has never happened before? You are trying to divert the conversation at this point because it has been easy for you to put down the community, but you aren't able to put much meat behind it.

Rob, could you please dimensionally re-phrase the dimensions of that dimensional statement to a more suitable dimension?

    Depends on whether he meant:

    worthless ----- wannabe post
    worthless wannabe ----- post

The ambiguity means that he'll probably take the more favorable now that it's been challenged.

Reading his other posts, it seems that the latter of the two is the case, which I too find quite offensive. It surely doesn't help dispelling the notion of Ferrari owners being a bunch of elitist snobs sharing their enthusiasm on a money-only basis...

wax, I have a slight bit of a feeling just inside the most outside perimeter of my perception that you don't really have *that* much to do at the moment, is that possible by any even so small chance? ;)
