lol ......... you guys are awesome :D!!!!! Here is the latest .......... the 'gothspeed' tops were dynoed on Saturday ..... and here is some info ......

Using 'stock' exhaust w/hyperflow cats ........ net gain was 5-6 RWHP at 8000rpm and above :) ..... but mid range power went down a bit ........

Since the velocity stacks I used were designed for very high volume/air-flow ......... it seems the demands of the engine only began to use the huge velocity stacks flow capacity at higher RPMs where it showed the gains. A possible example of 'too big a hole' ruining a good time ..... :(

So next I will be shaping new velocity stacks that will increase air velocity at slightly lower 'air demands' and stick them into new air boxes. That way I will have two intake options to test, when my new higher flow exhaust gets completed .... :D!

side note: as speedy_sam predicted ......... K&N filters made no noticeable difference vs stock paper elements in this test example.

Thanks for the details Goth! so given the 355 is no torque monster the factory designed the airbox angle to keep velocity up at lower rpm's to help the low end, sacrificing a bit on the high end (just repeating what you said pretty much :D )

And they do look sweet...is that painted or powder coated? Inside too?

Edit: So I guess the next step is an active intake that keeps velocity up at low revs then opens up for better breathing at high revs. Maybe some kind of rubber flap? Or something like the afterburner flaps on the back of a jet engine? Just brainstorming for fun...

Satin nero powdercoated inside and out :) ................ I have some other theories as to why the mids mellowed out a tad, but the matter is still under investigation .......... ;)

As I mentioned above, the goal on the next set of intakes is to strike a better balance between the two dynamics ............. also this effect may only be the case with the 'stock' exhaust ......... when I get the monster done it could be a very different story ........ but by then I will have a few different intakes to test with to achieve the ultimate 'combo' ........ :D

Edit: Variable intake is a good option and may come into play should a 'best of both worlds' size be too elusive ......... ;)

Why don't you eliminate the upper muffler like fabspeed?

I did that once and it changed the intake sound a tiny bit  ......... it could be a 'sound resonator' of some sort ............... though when I get my new exhaust installed there may not be a real need for it then ......... your suggestion will definately be taken at that point ....... :)

I think all needed is a plug of some sort to get rid of that little black box...Wonder how these would fair on my car with Fabspeed headers, HyperFlow cats and the Capristo race exhaust!! Goth will they be already powdercoated from you when sold?

Yes ........ a tapered heavy plastic disc is what is needed to engage and seal using the stock v-band clamp :) ......... on your heavily modded 355, I don't think the 'resonator' sound effect would even be noticed ............ ............ I will make a couple of those 'discs' this weekend if you want to try one out Robbie ....... no charge .... ;)

I think it might be some kind of reverse pressure wave equalizer/canceler, but what do I know. It's there for a reason though.

Common on many cars, there's a huge one that comes stock on the STi. At least on the STi it's for noise only, definitely makes a difference.

I normally recommend everything nero ............. but that v-band clamp has some sharp edges and will surely scratch it ...... ......... though if it must be nero ...... I would paint only the 'outside' so if any paint decides to flake off, it will not go into the 'un-filtered' engine intake ....... ;) ................. if/when I install one of these ....... I will leave it natural aluminum .......

What do you guys think ............... natural or nero??

As a style question, the natural contrasts nicely with the nero everywhere else to me...

    VERY nice work Oz!! :D:D

I would paint it black. Stick it in, clamp it up and mask the surrounding area as best as possible and give it a quick hit with some black spray paint. ;);)
