i was just wondering if anyone has done any speaker/sub upgrades ? i did a search and didn't come up with much... i would like to see pictures of sub locations. also how much better is the sound? can you hear the sound system over the high volume of the exhaust ? thanks.
With Tubi headers and exhaust and Hyperflow cats, my stereo has not been on in 2 years! I prefer Maranello music! Plus debugging the damage to electrical system that was a result of the installation by some monkeys of the upgraded stereo system for the previous owner cost me close to $2,000.
There are many threads on this subject. Try a search on "strereo installation", "stereo upgrade", or "speaker upgrade." There are some great looking solutions posted. I just did the head unit on my 348 with a Alpine XM Sat radio upgrade. Removed the Pioneer six-disc changer in the trunk, and replaced with the Sat receiver. I did nothing with the speakers, but with increased power output, not needed for me. Good luck!
Plenty of threads to search for info. I replaced mine with an Alpine head unit and JL Audio speakers - sounds good, but needs a little bass....
I upgraded much the same as Tom348 When my in trunk CD changer died I decided to just go with a new Alpine, CDA 9886. This allows me to use the Ipod on the few occassions where I am interested in music vs. exhaust notes. Probably should do the speakers but with the acoustics with roof off makes it seem pointless
I put an "Earthquake" 6" subwoofer on the passenger side lower panel next to the console. I think NoDoubt did it first. The earthquake sub is very shallow but puts out great bass. I made another panel to duplicate the original, complete with carpet, in case I wanted to put it back original. Then I cut out for the sub and installed.
I just bought a JVC KD-AVX44 Head Unit, Infinity 6020CS speakers for the doors and tweeters, and a Sony XM-ZR1252 Amp to power them. I will add another Amp and a Sub once I decide where I want to put the Sub. I have an F355 Spider and I am considering adding another set of mid range speakers behind the head rests under the spider top and possibly a sub in between them or sideways in the opening between the passenger and drivers footwells in front of the tunnel (saw a picture of this somewhere.).
Here are a few pics from my custom stereo install. All FoCal system with an Eclipse tuner and custom built fiberglass work with Rossa Corsa paint. No holes drilled, completely removable and easily restored to original if I ever wanted. i have a pair of focal 165k2p 6.5 inch speakers with a focal cross over laying around with a 300/4 jl audio amp...i do like bass but i think my jl w7 15inch would be just a little too much power for this car. maybe 1 10inch would be perfect.
