i would say that 808s is an exploratory album more than much else, he expressed his pain at losing two women very close to him in life and used a new style which does sound cool singing skill or not... i havent been a big kayne fan but 808s got my attention because i feel the real purpose behind the album... what was the line he had in another song... "50 told me change your style up, and if they dont like it watch the money pile up" or something like that pretty true these days (and what a terrible lyric)

There were a bunch of conflicting stories about how it was done. In the end, even Antares even claimed it was AT.

The producer had this convoluted story about using a Digitech Talker and a Korg VC10. I owned a VC10 at one point and still own a multitude of hardware vocoders, I don't see how that would have done the trick. Keep in mind, the newer editions of AT are a lot more complicated (and better sounding) than the original versions. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. IIRC you can play AT via MIDI and just follow along. This would make the most sense.

AT was used in every which function possible. It was fun for him. At his listening event, he explained that very subject and what people may think about it once the album dropped...

I'd rather watch someone stir the pot to their own liking, than continue with the old.

ot... REmix, have you come across a UK compilation called Chilled Beats?

I heard that song a few weeks ago and thought it was a new track from Dirty Vegas (Days Go By). It's a good track, the best that he hasn't used a Daft Punk beat for...

That's the thing about rap. Great beats with a lot of energy but the vocals (I can't use the term melodies) kill it for me.....

I can't understand why some of you think Micheal Jackson won't be remembered in 10 years. He is still one of the most influential people in music history. His dancing style changed the way performers do their craft. His musical abilities cannot be denied at all. Heck the last album he put out was more then 10 years ago I think, and artists still have him as one of their major influences. He is still perhaps one of the most innovative people in music in the last 20 years. Just listen to the thriller album, and the few albums that followed it. Have a look at his dance moves and how other artists have copied him to this very date.

Although I don't really like his music (not my taste) you cannot deny his influence on pop music. To do so is just ridiculous.

Im the one saying he wont be rememberd and Im a huge fan. I try to separate my personal feelings from my analysis.

Michael Jackson missed the boat on two counts. First his music is dated and not timeless. Secondly his personal life has turned him into a joke. Those two things kill any chance he has at obtaining that rarified status Elvis or The Beatles have.

I heard a Kanye West song on the radio today. Called "Love Lockdown".
The vocals do sound kind of like that Cher song from a few years ago.

Here is a youtube video of the song:

I can't believe how many have fallen for Kanye West's narcissism.

Kanye West is great because he says he is great, again and again and again and again...

As for his mad rapping skillz - puh-leaze.

Anybody, anybody, anybody can sound good with software and post-production.

    Hell, even a half-decent Karaoke setup'll do.

    For example;

To this day, the greatest singing I've ever heard was a tape of a buddy singing "The Love Boat" theme song.

You would be incorrect in your assumption that because I believe Elvis, Beatles and Sinatra are timeless I am a big fan. I am fairly ambivalent about all three of them ...however, as Ive said in other posts (which it seems you might not have read) I AM a HUGE Michael Jackson fan. But I am also able to step away and separate my personal enjoyment of his music to judge if he is still relevant anymore...and he is not as far as the general public.

It might be that my choice of words is poor...perhaps my point would be better served if I said that Michael Jackson has not, and will not, achieve the kind of timeless iconic status enjoyed by Sinatra, Elvis, Beatles.

Obviously no one is completely forgotten. There is always a small fan base for even the most obscure artist...for example my favorite band of all time is The Sweet. Most people have no idea who they are yet thousands of bands would say they were a large inspiration. I would still consider them 'forgotten' as at one time they were the most popular band in the world.

My point is to say Michael Jackson wil simply be remembered a a big pop star from the 80s. He will not be remembered as having much lasting impact on music or pop culture.

The best part of his music are the guitarists he gets to play on his records.
A lot of people don't realize who is making some of that music.
    For example,
    - Eddie Van Halen on "Beat It".
    - Slash on "Black or White"
    - Steve Stevens on "Smooth Criminal" (guitarist for Billy Idol)
    - Carlos Santana on "Whatever Happens"

I just wish he weren't such a mess in his personal life.

Joe Jackson, yes. Michael Jackson, I could not find a reference.

Here is a list of artists that Steve Vai has teamed up with over the years:

It would certainly seem that way, but I have read your posts. I've even read your posts in the B&I section =))

I think J.T, Chris Brown, Kanye, Ne Yo and a host of other R&B and Hip Hop artists will diasagree, as will I. As a matter of fact, I can't think of anyone that has had a more lasting impact on current pop music, Hip Hop, R&B, Electronica, House, Funk etc. than MJ (but perhaps not on music and pop culture in general). Who in your opinion will then have lasting impact on pop music?
