Force India switching to Mercedes opens up a "production" slot for Ferrari. Plus, you gotta believe RB knows the "right people" to talk to......

Like ian said, it would make a lot of sense to get an engine/trans/KERS deal similar to what Force India and McLaren have. Could help to "attract" potential buyers, or may be the requirement of someone already looking at purchasing the team...

 

Shame this late in the game because the chassis was built for the Honda engine/KERS combination.

Many years back, when different configurations were possible (V8, flat 12 etc), I would have agreed with you. However, the current lumps are so similar in spec I don't see it as too much of an issue. [I've watched quite a few dyno tests on utube and don't think you could tell 'em apart if they didn't have names on top.....]

Now, KERS packaging may be another issue - Maybe they'll go with Ferrari lumps and stay with the Honda KERS?

I'd love to see it, and as someone said, "Ferrari powered" may just make any acquisition a little easier (Someone who wants to get "close" to the factory / kudos of Ferrari maybe?)

Actually Motorsport aktuell also reported the story. It is based on an interview with Brawn and seems credible.

BTW: In the same interview Brawn denies any Slim rumors and states that the man never visited the Honda factory. So much for that.

No, Honda is out of F1. But the team still has a valuable car, but now without an engine, so they're looking around. Brawn used his old Ferrari contacts to look for an engine deal. I'm sure Ferrari would be happy to sell them since they lost Farce India for this year.

 

I wonder how far Honda got on it's KERS programme. I had expected them to be amongst the top teams in that regards due to their technological assets.

 

It's a good thing RB isn't just sitting around waiting for the balloon to go up. Seems like there'd be a learning curve deciding to drop an F engine in a Honda chassis. One that a potential buyer might want to wait until more of the kinks are out.

 

I would say that both BMW and Toyota are looking to be more competitive because of this, especially BMW and Heidfeld.

Honda has not found a buyer as of yet. They will not supply a Honda engine as they said they would, for the new buyer. Ross Brawn, is talking to his contacts at Ferrari, as the engine supplier for the team. Maybe yes or maybe no, as of today.

A former world champion, who resides in Switzerland, these days, has also been contemplating a return to F1 racing, as many think he retired from the sport too early and was at the peak of his career. He also has past contacts with Ferrari, and many feel he was forced out for another driver, which some may consider a mistake. With R. Brawn, the nucleus of a winning team would be present, with the machinery being in question. This former WDC, is looking for something to do this 2009 F1 season, and has raced motorcycles recently. With Honda, as a past world champion in both worlds of motor racing, many times over, he could have the best of both worlds!

Wouldn't it be fantastic, if this team would beat Ferrari, with their own engine? Maybe they could borrow some funds from Bernie Ecclestone, before his divorce is finalized, to start things rolling?

By the way, for the sake of this arguement, I never said that this gentlemen was Michael Schumacher.
