Nahrain Karthekian is another recent shockingly bad driver. Daddy paid Jordan a lot of money in the final year so his son could have a go.

Dad has no money. It was TATA that sponsored him and he was not that bad at all considering he was the first indian driver.

 

Maybe not the worst but surely Ralf Schumacher deserves a mention for being the most overrated!

"Of course, of even more interest to us was the GP weekend debut of Chanoch Nissany on Friday, who became the first Israeli to participate in an official meet, and also the oldest man to do so since Nigel Mansell's disaster at McLaren in Spain in 1995. Nissany didn't cover himself in glory on his home track (he lives in Hungary), spinning off after only eight laps of free practice. We doubt he'll ever actually race in F1, which is a shame, because otherwise he'd probably be a perfect candidate for this website!"

 

Definitely Yuji Ide from the first few races of the '06 season. He was only in F1 because Super Aguri needed another Japanese driver.

Don't look at Ralph's last season at Toyota and base that as the summation of his career. He's talented and quick, but unfortunately by the end of his career, lost motivation and was gifted an uncompetitive car. Ralph deserves no place in this discussion.

Hector Rebaque, and in fact for a "gentleman" sportsman he actually performed credibly and I wouldn't say he emabarrassed himself. The Lotus cars he ran privately were always a year out of date and he did get a pointscoring 6th place in the 1978 German GP. In 1990 he went half reasonably in a works Brabham and even won a CART race at Elkhart Lake in 1982. So definitely not a tosser.

De Cesaris was a former World Karting Champion who served his car racing apprenticeship at the age of 18 in a Formula 3 Ralt during the 1978 British Formula 3 Championship campaign. He made his F1 debut in an Alfa Romeo in the 1980 Canadian Grand Prix. That same year he joined Ron Dennis's Project Four organization for a program of Formula 2 before he was promoted into the newly established McLaren International ranks to partner John Watson in the following year's Formula 1 lineup. Unfortunately de Cesaris never managed to shrug off his erratic streak, punctuating his first full Grand Prix season with a succession of accidents and incidents. In 1982 he switched back to the Alfa Romeo factory team where he qualified on pole position at Long Beach, was then overtaken by Niki Lauda's McLaren and eventually hit the wall while running second. He stayed with Alfa in 1983, leading the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps before retiring, after which his career went into a gentle decline with spells at Ligier (1984 and 85), Minardi (1986), Brabham (1987) and Rial (1988) before he spent two seasons driving the Scuderia Italia Dallaras. Just as it looked as though the waters were closing over de Cesaris in Formula 1 he was signed to lead the debutante Jordan team in 1991 and came close to bagging second place behind Ayrton Senna's McLaren at Spa. In 1992 and 93 he earned a reprieve with the Tyrrell team and then had two more races for Jordan in 1994, standing in for the suspended Eddie Irvine, before moving to the Sauber-Mercedes squad as replacement for the injured Karl Wendlinger. By the end of his Formula 1 career he had driven in 208 races with a couple of second places (Germany and South Africa in 1983) as the best results on his score card. After leaving F1 he became a currency trader but spent most of his year travelling the world windsurfing.

While his name escapes me at the moment there was this British chap who drove for McLaren who rear ended Kimi while he was stopped at a red light at the pit lane exit

 

Ok, I was misinformed about who paid his ticket into F1, but that doesnt matter.
Where one is from has nothing to do with how good you are though. Thats like saying Mr A from Tibet gets a drive for Ferrari, but finishes every race last, but thats ok because he's the first driver from Tibet.

 

I would think the "gentlemen" racers of the very early days.
No real license or experience needed. Lots of cash + big ego = spot on the grid.
An example;
I remember reading one of Phil Hill's accounts of a race in Sicily (?) when he passed one of these rolling road blocks several times and later on that night, after the race, that "gentleman" sent out his goons to soothe his bruised ego. Classic.

 

Putting Glock and Hami in "the worst racer" catagory just shows ignorance. Plain and simple.

i disagree. he had a crap car to begin with. and for Williams to hire him as a test driver is something.
